A Change in Fate.In the middle of spring, may 10th to be exact, students of Still Waters High were all ready for summer to arrive. After months of harsh winter weather and weeks of nothing but snow and ice it was finally nice to see the sun again. It felt like no one would ever see the light of day again, or maybe thats just dramatic. But it didnt matter because in just one more month, Summer would arrive and give them the freedom they earned over the months. Jessica, though she prefered JJ, was more ready than anything. Shes surprised that she made it through having to tolerate people she could barely stand next to without gagging. Today though, today of all days was so different because it was her 16th birthday. "A great family tradition passed down through generations" or something like that. All she knew was that it was imortant to her family and to her as a person, she didnt know why, she could only feel it.
The two -o- clock bell rang just as her teacher, Mrs. Spencer, was giving out homework. Jessica couldnt zip her bag up fast enough before she heard her teachers voice chime one last time before everyone left.
"Alright, Dont forget Chapter 2.7 pages 24, and 29-31 are due by Friday!" She said in a oh so cheerful voice.
Jessica loved her teacher. She was a witty and charismatic woman always saying things like "Alright America!" when she started class like she had just walked on stage to host a popular talk show. How she got stuck in a dump like Still Water, no one ever knew. But that wasnt really Jessica's concern at the moment, so she simply rushed out the doors of the school and immediately she felt the breeze float past her face. Every gentle gust dancing in her chestnut hair. Today was the type of day she could enjoy forever, such breezes took her back to days of summers long gone where she would do nothing but swim and lay on the beach enjoying the currents and breezes that dare fill her heart with nostalgia.
Drip, drip, drip. Rain. She hardly had time to enjoy the weather before she was ducking back near the door from the rain that seemed to come out of absolutely no where.
"Its supposed to be clear today..." she couldnt help but pout, i mean who wants rain on their birthday? Jessica turned her head towards the sky staring at the slow moving clouds that reflected back in her ever changing grey hues. Turning her gaze towards her watch she had counted 2:15 on her watch. Where was her mother? That woman was late for her own birthday but it didn't mean she had to be late on her daughters.
"Give me a break" the teen said in a irritated voice as she sat next to the door slowly dozing off. She would have gone to sleep too if it hadn't been for the sudden honk of her mothers horn.
"Had you forgotten about me mother?" her voice was humerous and sarcastic, she couldn't be mad.
"Im sorry guppy the traffic down here is nothing but trouble you know" came the cheery bell like voice of her mother, Amry J Heavenly. The Goofball.
What a nut that one (if she wasnt eating one she was being one). She wasnt bad at all she was such a nice woman with such a heart to give and love everyone around her. Standing at a stumpy 5"2 she wore fancy cats-eye glasses that covered her brown eyes but they fit perfectly to her rounder face and dark brown hair. She had olive skin like her daughter, but honestly the two couldn't be more different, or so Jessica thought.
The drive home was like any other; They listened to music, talked, relaxed and just enjoyed eachother. Jessica had slipped her earbuds in though and just stared out the window and the on coming rain that hit, watching as raindrops raced eachother down the glass until they finally disappeared from sight. Something caught her sight, the familiar waves of the beach of Still Water Bay. The place she loved the most in the whole wide world. The best part is she lived in a three story beach house right on the sand, Still Water was her backyard. Her own bay windows overlooked the ocean and the sunset every day of every night.
Exhausted, she lay in her round swinging bed looking at the ceiling. It was her birthday and she waited patiently in her room for her family to prepare the apparent surprise they had prepared for her.
'Go upstairs and dont come down until we call for you ok guppy?' she said immiating her Mothers voice with a nasally tone before laughing to herself in thought, what could they have that was so amazing that she couldnt even go downstairs?
Before she had noticed it she was fast asleep and what seemed like minutes...turned into hours.
