"Please tell me this is a bad dream!"

"I'm sorry honey, I know you love it here, but money's tight. There's a great job offer awaiting me."

"Where, exactly?"

"Omaha, Nebraska."

Omaha? What the Hell was I supposed to do in Omaha? Pick corn?

"Hey, maybe you'll like it there. Maybe we can finally have a fresh start. Maybe you'll make friends."

"Doubt it." I mumble while glumly walking upstairs.

"Get packing, we leave in one week!" She calls.

I get to my room and pull out some suitcases. May as well get it over with.

As aggravated as I am about the sudden relocation, something in the pit of my gut tells me this might not be as bad as I think.

*

I wake in the early morning, eager to get this over with. My stuff is packed and ready. Now all I have to tackle is the twenty eight hour drive.

*

We get there two days later, both of us exhausted from the drive. But as I pull up, I'm totally astonished.

"Mom, wow. This is beautiful."

"Didn't I say you would like it? And I've decided as a little welcoming gift, you can have the master. I won't need all of that space anyways."

"Aw, really? Thank you so much." I say genuinely, and give her a big hug. "You're the bomb dot com."

We walked in together, and as soon as the door opens, I'm in awe. My last house was nice enough, but this is perfect.

My mother and I agree to haul the mattresses in together, since it's two in the morning and we're both dead tired. After we settle the mattresses and I lay down, I'm out like a light.
