>>><<<I re-read the texts Sammy sent last night, giving me details on our fro-yo date. Date? Yeah, I like the sound of that.
It's noon now, so I decide to do a simple nude look with my makeup and get to my outfit.
I choose fashion over comfort and put on a floral flows tank, along with a sweater and some jeans. I decide on simple accessories, just a watch, and slip on my boots.
My hair is still wavy, so I braid it intricately before leaving the room.
I walk down stairs, hoping to maybe get some money from my mom before leaving, and I'm surprised to see Sam sitting at the bar, chatting it up with my mother.
"Sorry to interrupt," I say, catching their attention.
"Oh, you ready to go?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, be safe. Lovely meeting you Sam." My mom smiles.
"You too, miss Noel."
We walk out to his car, and I'm about to open the door until he yells "WAIT!" before practically hopping over the hood to open the door for me. "My lady." He says with a British accent.
After I get in, there's a long silence. "Um, thanks for picking me up." I sputter awkwardly.
"I should be thanking you. A beautiful girl in my car? Thanks, Camryn."
I giggle at him, and he raises his eyebrows in question. "Nothing, you're just such a flirt. Guys don't usually flirt with me."
"Well, I'd bet most of the guys you've met don't have the balls to walk up and talk to a pretty girl like you. Lucky for me."
"You didn't walk up and talk to me, you threw a fry at my face." I contradict him.
"But I had the confidence to think that fry was going to make it into the trash can. Close enough."
I just laughed at his logic, before he parked in front of the frozen yogurt shop.
When we walk in, I immediately fill my cup with a mixture of cake batter and strawberries, while Sammy heads straight for the gummy bears and chocolate.
"I really hope you're paying, because I'm broke."
"Of course I'm paying."
He pays.
We find a seat in the corner and get comfortable, and he sparks up conversation. "So, Camryn, tell me about yourself."
"Okay, um, my name is Camryn Grace Noel, C-A-M-R-Y-N, I like to penny board, sing, and-"
He cuts me off. "No, I mean the real you. Like, what makes Camryn, Camryn?"
Well I'm not about to tell this kid my life story, especially not on the first date, so I start simple. "Well, I'm really OCD. Like, extremely. And I don't leave the house without doing my makeup. Um, I hate my nose, Miami is my favorite place in the world, I hate the cold, and I have a complex family."
"How so?"
I sigh, debating if I'm giving up too much information to early on. "Well, my parents got divorced a little over a year ago, and my sorry excuse of a dad got custody of my brother. Now that I'm eighteen, I'm trying to get custody. So is my mom. And he also took my dog, Kimber, who was literally my best friend. My dad sucks. Him and his new wife moved to some shit town in Georgia, and he took half of my family with him. It's just me and my mom."
He grabs my hand from across the table. "Look, Cam, I know you're not telling me something. And I'm not gonna push the issue. Just know that when ever you're ready, I'll be there for you. I didn't drive you out here and buy you yogurt and ask for your life story just to get into your pants."
I smile at him. Omaha isn't that bad.
So I ask him about himself, and we learned a lot about each other.
"Hey, you've got something in your face." He says, gesturing for me to lean in, so I do. My mistake, because I'm met with a hand full of melted yogurt.
"Oh, Wilkinson, you just made the biggest mistake of your life."
Soon enough, we're both throwing yogurt, and get kicked out.
We walk to his car, and my stomach hurts from laughing so hard. "Oh my God, the look on the janitors face! He probably hates us."
"Ah, good times, good times. I sense a strong friendship forming here."
Friendship? Yikes.
"Um, yeah. Best friends forever." He gives me a knuckle puck.
We get into his car. "So, the Jacks and Nate have their girls over, and I was wondering if maybe you'd wanna meet them or something. Make some girl friends."
I shrug. "Don't see why not."
"Cool, cool."
We drive in silence for a while until I finally speak up. "What are they like?"
"Um, Gilinsky's girlfriend is really chill. Her name is Arabella. She's into some really grunge shit, like she wears crystal necklaces and chokers and stuff, but she pulls it off. You'll like her. She kinda comes off as snobby at first, but she's actually really quirky and nice. And then Mallory is dating Johnson, and she's like, a tom boy. Played varsity girls basketball at our school. She's better than me.
"And then there's Leigh, who's pretty much Skate's side hoe. She's Gilinsky's ex, and she really wants to get back with him, but Nate doesn't see it. She's a bitch."
"Oh." I say, my insides starting to flutter. Maybe it's stupid to be so anxious, but the last group of girl friends I had didn't turn out so well. They ended up being total bitches.
My hearts pounding out of my chest, and then almost stops when I feel Sam's hand intertwine with mine. "Is this okay?"
"Yeah." I smile.
I thought my heart was beating fast before? Now it's 100 miles a minute.
