Fear: a sensation of total distress, an inability to perform an action due to potential harm. Fear: a creeping darkness, edging in the back of minds, an immortal nightmare lingering behind every door. A slithering snake, slipping through the slick grass, eyes narrowing, tongue darting, focused. A crawling spider, legs rapid, movement erratic, building its web to watch from high above. A small room, walls closing in, tightening, condensing, pressure building. A large crowd, people screaming, random conversations, eyes everywhere, bodies everywhere, people everywhere. Angry eyes, angry voices, angry fists striking down, towering over, shadow casting, spit flying, lips curled into a snarl. A scream, a hysteria, a terror, a pain. Fear: the one thing that can control it all.

“Thor, she stole your cape again,” Loki called from the doorway to your room, nibbling on a chocolate bar. You had just gone on an outing to Midgard, having to visit the Avengers for a smaller mission. Thor wanted you to become a full member of the Avengers, but with your powers not fully controlled and being one of the most powerful beings ever born, the Goddess of Fear, you thought it was a horrible idea.

“Dammit,” You heard the eldest brother call from the opposing room, his footsteps pounding. You flipped Loki off as you tossed a handful of fruity candies in your mouth. Luckily for you, it was the month of October back on Earth, which hosted a holiday celebrating spooks and candy. Thankfully, you were able to convince Tony Stark to buy you a few pounds. But of course, you had to share some with your brothers. “Y/N, would you stop doing that?”

“It’s cold,” You whined, sitting on the floor of your room, reading a book you and Loki had just finished. You and Loki had a ton of similarities, especially in your craving of knowledge. Both of you are constantly hopping planes back to Midgard, finding new things to read to pass the time. Thor is typically the one to go on missions, Loki still not fully trusted and you were still learning your full potential. “And this is warm. I’ll give you some um…here, KitKats. I’ll give you a KitKat for this cape.”

“Sounds like a horrible trade, brother,” Loki addressed Thor who walked passed. “If I were you, I wouldn’t give it up unless she offered the half-pound of Milk Duds she’s hoarding.”

“Never,” You hissed, wrapping the cape tighter around your head, looking like a cowl or a hood. “Those Milk Duds are mine. Most I’ll give you of anything is quarter pound box of Reese’s Pieces. Nothing more.”

“Those are disgusting,” Thor said, standing over you, his shadow blanketing. “No amount of candy can get me to give you that cape.”

“Hey, Reese’s Pieces aren’t that bad,” Loki snapped from his corner, crossing his arms. “And no, I won’t trade you them for my cape either.”

“What can I give you then?” You asked, eyes wide, pleading. You knew this look typically worked on both of your brothers, though today was not one of those days.

“Nothing,” Thor remained firm, also crossing his arms, despite the slight hint of amusement twinkling in his eyes. “Give it back.”

“What if I did this,” You said, springing up at him and knocking him off balance. The surprise attack worked, you had him pinned to your bed, fingers dancing all over his body, cape still wrapped around you. His gruff laughter filled the room, Loki’s amusement piqued. He strode across the room, sitting beside the two of you on the bed, watching you both with predatory eyes. You dug into Thor’s sides, laughing along with him as he tried to get out of your grip. You might be smaller than him, but also being a god had its perks. “Can I have the cape now?”

“I don’t think you should,” Loki said, having crept around, and grabbed you around your middle, picking you straight up. “Get your payback Thor, before I change my mind.”

“Traitor,” You screeched as Thor sat up from the bed, wearing a wide grin as residual damage. Thor skittered his fingers around your torso, sending you into quick hysterics. “But I gave you sweets!”

“Yeah, but I felt bad for my brother. Thor would look pretty stupid without his cape on, don’t you think?” You laughed at the joke along with the tickling, noting Thor’s glare at Loki. You could feel his fingers slowing, moving closer to your back, closer to Loki. You tried to meet his eyes, flashing him a wink before shooting your arms back, able to twist yourself around as Thor pinned both of you to the ground, allowing you to sit in front of him atop Loki’s chest. “Well, I have clearly made a mistake.” Loki admitted slightly scared.

“You sure have,” You beamed, feeling a drip of sweat slipping down from your temple. “I’ll give you some Snickers if you let me tickle him first, Thor.”

“Deal.”
