Wow this is so weird.
Hey guys! My name is Debs and this is my first ever story on here.
Someone referred to me not too long ago as a confessional writer and I've held on to that description since. In other words, I'm a writer that hates writing but feels compelled to write when I'm feeling a lot of emotions (that's at least my definition!). I am going to try my hardest not to give slow updates but if I do, please bear with me, it's honestly not in my nature to write regularly or within time constraints (the main reason I have never published a book on
here) but I know how frustrating infrequent updates are so I promise to try and not do that to anyone who chooses to read my book. This is also way out of my comfort zone because my writings almost exclusively consist of poems, mostly because they are shorter and being a confessional writer, it is easier to let out all my emotions in a few stanzas or one (very) long paragraph. So you guys are my first for writing a story. Constructive criticism is definitely welcomed (particularly because I hate writing middles and will definitely need help from you guys there) but please be kind 🥺.A few notes
- If you're a sex scene kind of person, you won't find that here, sorry!
- The chapters are lightly edited before being published so apologies if there are any mistakes. Something that has been keeping me from writing is fear of making mistakes and wanting perfection. I keep realising that such a mindset will never allow me to start the things I want. Therefore, write now, detailed editing later. This also means character's names, ages etc. may change but I will keep you guys updated with all of that!
- This is a modern historical fiction book based on the Biafra Nigerian civil war but I want to stress that it is loosely based, so the facts won't be accurate! I am reading up on the Biafra war whilst simultaneously writing this book, so the historical facts will become more accurate as the book develops but please I'm not a history teacher, professor or PhD holder!!
- The book will have quite a few Igbo words and phrases and the chapters will also be numbered in Igbo (Igbo is a Nigerian language and tribe). I am also in the process of self teaching myself Igbo (pray for me) and so I am actually writing the Igbo words myself most of the time and not using a translator. If you are Igbo and speak it fluently then Ndo in advance because I will definitely make loads of mistakes 😭 but bear with me, it is helping me significantly with getting used to writing in Igbo. I have not decided whether or not to translate the words I use in the book yet, if I feel like enough people have asked me to do so then I most likely will than not, but for now use an online translator please!
- Finally, a small but a important note. Apologies about the crap description, I will change it as the story develops also!As you can see, I'm a big waffler, I'd like to say that will not translate in the book but I would then be lying to you. Take me as I am!
Can't wait to engage with you guys!
All my love,
Debs x
