"You will never be one of them, Yuan!" shouted an old man in front of me as I just sat down still, trembling as I failed to counteract this guy's assault against Khalil, now curled up and crying beneath the dining table, "You're trying to be tough and strong when your body says no? How pitiful."
His voice was never new to both of us. Not long when we started living under his roof after our parents died, there's no day when he doesn't harm nor shout at me and Khalil. The strong preys on the weak.
"If you want to catch your prey, be strong! Don't be so petite! You're being worthless!" he added, taking a sip from the beverage he took out from the fridge, "You're no different than your dad. How fortunate that he died. Both of you and him are useless!"
The coldness of the liquid from his mouth burnt on my skin. I felt really dirty. He sat down in front of me, forcefully took my face by hand, saying, "Listen, dimwit. You can't be a strong predator, if you keep being a prey to others!"
*thud*
The sunlight that escaped from the window of the room lightened my eyes as I opened both, feeling so tired. The room was so dusky and dry, added by the warmth of the sun's rays.
"Where am I?" I quickly roamed my eyes around, the place was very unfamiliar. I didn't remember being astray before. I was at the comfort room when I lost consciousness.
Wait.
"Khalil!" I shouted, standing up and attempted to run towards the door, but a force from my neck stopped me from doing so.
A chain leash? How did I end up like this?
"You're awake now, pretty boy?" an unfamiliar voice called out from the doorway. His silhouette being a bit lit up by the faint lights of the sun from outside.
"Who are you?" I put up myself, voice a bit hoarse from the grip of the leash, "Why are you doing this to me?"
The man slowly walked towards my direction, taking out a lighter and a stick of cigarette out. He bites the other end of the stick, lighting up the other with the lighter before throwing it to the ground. In this situation, he looked so full of himself. Psychopath.
"You know what, Yuan? You're too noisy," he said as he sat down in front of me when he got closer.
"Noisy? How come if my voice is so hoa—"
"Your head, pretty boy. Your thoughts are too loud," he said as he leaned his face nearer mine, taking the cigarette out by his left hand while caressing my cheek on the other one, "Might as well teach you how to shut up."
"What do you want from me?" I tried breaking up from his grip, but this psychopath is stronger than me. I had no choice but to stare in his eyes and smell the smoke coming from the cigarette. I trembled a bit for what will happen next.
"Call me psychopath all you want, I already know that myself," he looked at me straight both of my eyes. His gaze was a bit burning, as if it was molded by the hands of Hephaestus, "And what do I want from you? Well, it's simple. You'll be the prize of my maze."
As he said those words, he leaned his face nearer, approaching my right ear. His breath was hot and damp on my cheek, "I feel so bad for what happened to you before. How does the punch from your uncle taste like?"
"H-how did you know?" my voice cranked up as he asked me. It was quite traumatizing, who doesn't feel otherwise when someone asks about your bad past? Since that time when we left our uncle's house, I forced myself to forget everything.
