"You don't want to do this, Aamon." I beg, the looming threat of death hanging over my every thought. I'm huddled in the corner of a dimly lit warehouse and the only exit is blocked by his herculean figure.
"Ammo baby," I lure him in despite his discovery. "No one can conquer our love, remember?"
His evil expression softens despite his fresh attempt to kill me and his feverish lips meet mine, then trail to my neck as my eyes lock on my escape twenty feet away.
Aamon Sorrentino, named after the Grand Marquis of Hell, is LA Devil's hardened hitman. His strong reluctance to trust made the job difficult, but I always find a way.
I knee his groin with as much force as I can muster but he grips my wrist before I can escape.
"You're good, Elena." He cackles viciously. "Using your womanhood to penetrate my defenses. You almost got away with it."
"You know the penalty for killing a federal agent?" I threaten in a low growl. "Capital punishment."
"Those consequences only apply if I'm caught. How many people know the truth?" He tormentingly shakes his head. "You've kept this case close to your chest."
My heart clenches, he's right. My only contact is my partner Liz and I couldn't risk blowing our covers.
Ammo grips the crowbar, already stained with blood, in his left hand. I cringe remembering how he always leaves his victims unrecognizable. Aamon grips my wrist and wrenches until I'm forced to my knees.
Panicked breaths escape my lips as the metal crowbar rises in the air and casts a shadow on my face. I force my shoulders straight, facing my end head-on with fury burning in my chest.
A screech of metal scratches the concrete and two bullets abruptly dig into Ammo's back. His dark eyes widen in shock as he slumps to the floor.
"You're late." I grumble as Liz saunters over.
We stand with our hands on our hips as we watch the life drain from Aamon's eyes.
"Who's next?" I smugly ask as Liz's face lights up with a mischievous smirk.
