Boarding? Mounting? I'm not exactly sure what it's called when one rides a dragon, but getting on it is no easy task. Especially when one member of the crew is completely unconscious. I guess we're just lucky that the rain had stopped.
We end up having it where Rune is holding Sandra in front of him, and I sit with Maddie in front of me, behind Rune. I can't say being the first who'd fall off the back is so reassuring. Poor Maddie must feel incredibly squished as she's wedged between both Rune and I, with me hanging onto his pack straps by a death grip.
Just as we're about to take off, Sandra wakes up. She's a little groggy at first, but very soon figures out where she is and how much she doesn't want to be there.
"Oh god!" She screams, clinging to Rune as she looks down at the dragons head.
"Easy, we haven't even took off yet," he shushes her, or at least tries to.
However, she lets out a shriek before pushing her way out of his embrace and falling to the rooftop.
"I can't do it. I'm sorry, I just can't get on one of those things. I thought I'd be able to, but it's just too-" she begins but the dragons cuts her off with a low growl. It crouches low.
"Get down!" Rune immediately whisper yells as he leans forward on the dragon. Both Maddie and I lean with him.
"What is it?" I whisper.
"They're back, stay quiet," he whispers, keeping his eyes forward as we watch the black car approach the front of the building again.
They drive up to the front entrance, passenger side window down, a flashlight sticking out.
"Off, off," I whisper, hopping off and pulling Maddie down with me.
We crouch low, over by Sandra as Rune climbs down and crawls over to the other side. He watches for a moment before ducking low as the light shines over. Surprisingly, the dragon is able to lay just low enough that the light can't shine on him. Had we all been on him still, it would've shined on us though.
After it shines over to a different area of the roof, Rune looks back over the edge at them. After a moment, he quietly crawls over to us.
"We need to go, now. They've started driving around the building. Pretty soon, they're going to find the fire escape we climbed up," he whispers frantically.
"Okay okay, get Maddie on, I'll try to talk to Sandra," I whisper and leave him to get Maddie settled on. "Sandra, he won't eat us. Remember, Rune controls them. We're going to his kingdom because you need medical help. Duct tape isn't going to fix you up. Those guys with the guns are going to find us though, and really make us need a medic if you don't get on," I motion for her to get on the dragon but she doesn't budge. "If not for yourself, do it for Maddie," I throw in my last bargaining chip and she finally looks to me.
"You're sure it won't...attack?" She hesitates to get to her feet for a moment.
"If he wanted to attack, I think he would've done it by now, Sandra," I laugh a little as I help her to her knees and we crawl over to the dragon.
I help Sandra back on, in front of Rune, just in case she passes out again or something. She lost a lot of blood earlier so she has to be weak. Just as I hop on the back and grab Runes pack straps, we hear shouting. Then, we hear the men climbing the ladder. In a second, we're up in the air, looking down at the men who make it to the roof. One of them instantly points his gun at us and fires out two shots.
"Shoot!" I hear Sandra hiss and look over Runes shoulder to see she's been hit, yet again. This poor woman.
"Look up," I whisper to Maddie, in hopes that she won't see what I have to do next.
