1 - the college start party

It is the first day of college once again. Sun shines above all the new and the returning students of the University of Melbourne. Some hate the start of school while some love it. Loving it might be because of many parties and events. Tonight the seniors are helding the annual college start party for the students. It is by the beach and everyone are invited.

Roseanne sits at her room looking at herself from a mirror. She is a freshman at the uni and would attend her first college party ever. Luckily, her big sister Alice will accompany her, as she does not have any friends yet from the school.

"Alice! Do I really need to come?", Rose asks whining from her sister.

"Yes Rosie.. it is the traditions and besides, you could make some friends.", Alice answers reassuring.

Rose picks an outfit: jeans shorts and white cropped t-shirt. She brushes her hair and packs her handbag. Without admitting it to herself, she feels a bit nervous. Rose has always been shy around, especially, new people. This party would not be easy when almost everyone from the school would be there.

Rose has used to having one close friend, and her only friend, Jisoo, but she lives in Korea. Rose stays home as she does not want to go out a lot as it stresses her out. Her priorities are work and food. She has worked in the same cafe for the past 3 years. She hopes to own her own cafe in the future.

"Are you ready to go?", Alice asks.

"Yeah I am.", Rose answers while heading to her sister.

The sisters step outside and take Alice's car. The beach is 5 km away, so driving is the best for them. Anyways Rose will not drink, so she can drive them both home later as Alice likes to go out and party.

When they arrive, the day is getting darker and the sun is slowly going down. About half of the people are already there. Rose walks behind Alice and looks around trying to remember the road back to their car.

"Heyyy Alice and Roseanne!!", a girl with bright pink hair shouts.

"Rebeccaa!!", Alice shouts back and the girls hug. Rose just says hi.

"So, how are you guys?", Rebecca asks.

"I'm hoping to have a blast tonight.", Alice laughs.

"And you Roseanne?"

"I'm fine thank you.", Rose answers shortly.

Rose walks behind the girls while they talk. Many people are still just talking and having their first drinks. Rose kind of wishes she would have a friend of her own to hang out with.

"It is okay if we will go meet some people?", Alice asks Rose.

"Yeah sure go ahead. I'll find you. See you later.", Rose answers and is left alone.

Great. Now I'm alone without knowing anyone.

Rose walks around. It is funny how alone you can feel even in a crowd full of people. She tries to find a spot where she could sit and not disturb anyone. Be invisible.

She approaches the bonfire and gets an empty seat at the corner, far from everyone actually. Rose sits down and looks at the calm ocean. It is evening approaching night, but the weather is warm. Many people have gone for a swim. Rose wants too.

"THAT IS WHY I AM TELLING YOU THIS!!", Rose hears a crying girl's voice coming closer.

"I cannot believe I was with you.", Rose hears a male voice in disgust following.

"I thought you would at least try to understand...", the girl continues very heartbrokenly.

"You disgust me."

"YOU DISGUST ME!"

"I'm out."

A girl with a brown hair runs towards Rose, or the bonfire. As the only free seat is somewhat next to Rose, the brunette girl sits there and wipes her tears. She looks down and takes deep breathes looking very hurt.

Rose does not know should she say something or intervene, so she decides to stay silent. Another girl, with blonde hair and bangs, comes to the brunette girl and hugs her. They are most likely friends.

After a short while, they stand up and leave. Rose looks after them and sees how the brunette takes many drinks, and fast. Rose knows from the experience of her sister that this girl will be drunk soon.

"Heyyah.. how are youu?", the brunette girl comes to Rose. Rose looks at here confused while the girl sits next to her.

"I just thought you are verry prettyh.", the girl is tipsy.

"Oh- thank you?", Rose answers shyly. "Are you okay?"

"Yehh.. he was a pig.", the girl says. "And I'm Jennie, btw."

"I'm Roseanne."

"Wanna go for swim?"

"What now?"

"Yesss! We're at the beach anyways."

"Umm.. maybe you shouldn't in that condition."

"I'm totally good."

Jennie stands up and finds her balance. She smiles for Rose and walks towards the water. Rose follows her, so Jennie does not fall to the water or something. Jennie takes off her dress as she has bikinis under. Rose does the same with her clothes. The girls run into the water.

"That was fun!", Jennie says when they sit by the bonfire wrapped in towels.

"Yeahh.." Rose answers. She is usually a bit shy in front of new people, so she is vigilant.

"Are you a freshman too?"

"Yes I am."

"Oh nice. Maybe we'll see in school?"

"Yeah probably."

"Could you help me find Lisa?"

"Sure."

Rose holds Jennie as she took a couple of more drinks. The walk around the beach trying to find Lisa. Rose does not know what that girl looks like, so drunk Jennie's instructions are the best she can get. If Lisa is the girl Rose saw earlier, she can recognise her.

"Jennie! Where were you?", the blonde girl, Lisa, approaches Jennie and Rose.

"Swimming with Ros."

Rose gives Lisa a little awkward smile when Lisa grabs Jennie and now holds her.

"Thanks for looking out for her.", Lisa says to Rose.

"It's fine.", Rose answers and does not know should she go or what.

"I think I got it now.", Lisa says and leaves with Jennie.

Rose goes to another direction trying to find her sister.
