The bell rang, and Kuroo immediately ran over to Izumi's desk. "Izumi, what do you wanna eat?" he asked.
"Um, yakisoba bread, I guess." Izumi blushed. The corners of her lips tugged upwards. There was a warm tingling feeling in her heart. Kuroo has never interacted with her like this before. It felt like the distance between them shrunk, metaphorically, and physically, since Kuroo was literally right up in her face.
"Yakisoba bread right? I'll be right back!" Kuroo darted outside the classroom. His heart was racing in excitement. This was his chance. He'll buy lunch for her, and then he'll ask if he could eat with her. And then- He stopped. Yasuko stood right before him, blocking his way. "Kogawa."
"Where are you going? Did we say we'd eat lunch together?"
Shit. Kuroo completely forgot about that. "Listen Kogawa, is it okay if we don't eat lunch together? Izu- My childhood friend hurt her foot, so I need to buy her lunch."
"Ha? Why does it have to be you? Doesn't she have any other friends?" Yasuko crossed her arms.
"Well-"
"Hey Kuroo why are you still standing here?" Kiseki's voice interrupted Kuroo. She and Youko walked out of their classroom, and immediately saw Yasuko standing in front of Kuroo. Kiseki's brows wrinkled as she glared at the two of them. "Oh I see."
"I something wrong?" Izumi's voice came from inside the doorway. No, Kuroo thought. Don't come out! Don't look! Izumi's head popped out of the doorway. She was still having trouble with the crutches, but she made her way out. When she got out, she immediately caught sight of Yasuko. Izumi's honey colored eyes met with Yasuko's golden orbs. Unlike Izumi's cat like slit eyes, Yasuko's eyes were big and round, like a doll. Her face was so smooth and her lips shaped and colored perfectly. There was nothing Izumi could compete against. "Oh."
"Izumi it's not what it looks like!" Kuroo quickly walked over to Izumi. "The truth is-"
"You must be the childhood friend Tetsurou-kun was talking about!" Yasuko walked over and wrapped her arms around Kuroo's arm. She smiled rather pretentiously at Izumi. "I'm so sorry about your foot! Are you okay? Tetsurou-kun, let's hurry to the cafeteria and buy her lunch together!" Kuroo's jaws dropped. For a second he questioned if the girl beside him was still the same Yasuko he was talking to a moment ago. From the worried look in her eyes to the tone of her voice, he nearly believed that she was truly worried about Izumi.
Kiseki and Youko stepped in between Kuroo and Izumi, forming a protective motion. "No thanks. We're on the way to the cafeteria ourselves. You guys can go ahead and have your little honeymoon," Youko said while making a shooing motion.
"No, I-"
"Ah, is that so? Then, excuse us!" Yasuko interrupted Kuroo. "Kozume-san, I hope you feel better!" She then dragged Kuroo away with her, joining a few girls that were waiting for her.
"Wait! Kogawa I-..." Kuroo looked back multiple times, but he couldn't see Izumi's expression behind Kiseki and Youko. "Izumi..."
Yasuko turned her head after they were a good distance away. She narrowed her eyes at the black haired girl in crutches. And here I was wondering why he suddenly wanted to break up, to think it's because of such a plain girl.
"Tch, just when I thought Kuroo was genuinely sorry," Kiseki clicked her tongue.
"I'm sure he's actually sorry. It can't be helped. She's his girlfriend after all," Izumi said. "Plus, we shouldn't have forced him to buy lunch in the first place."
"Izumi you're just too big of a softie. He needs to do at least that much!" Youko replied. "Well, not like we put any faith in him in the first place."
