As Elijah, Kol and Andrea entered the room where Enzo's cell was located, both the vampires' breaths hitched at the strong smell of vervain mixed with blood. The room reeked of vervain-infused blood, making them almost dizzy as Andrea looked around worriedly.
The rest of the Mikaelsons and Salvatores had stayed behind, waiting for the other scientists Wes had called and were simultaneously keeping a lookout for more people from Augustine society, In case they decided to pop up.
She slowly moved away from Elijah and Kol, walking towards a cage which had a man in white clothes who had his back facing them. His breaths appeared to be shallow and his shoulders were shaking, making her take a shuddering breath. She hesitantly reached near the cell and gently called out, "Enzo?"
The man's shoulder stopped shaking, but he still didn't turn around, "Enzo," she called out again, moving closer but still keeping a safe distance. She didn't know for how many days he had been starved for.
She heard him take a deep breath as he slowly turned around and looked at her. An almost unrecognisable look passed his face it was the same look she had seen on the Salvatores and Mikaelsons face when she had first appeared.
"Mate," he whispered inaudibly, making a confused look appear on Andrea's face.
"Pardon?" She said, not having heard him, but he just shook his head before his fangs elongated and veins appeared under his eyes, making Andrea step back.
"You're bleeding," he said, looking at her in hunger, yup he had definitely not been fed for a long time or at least, not properly. It was rather stupid of her to forget that she still had blood on her clothes from before, but nothing could be done now, so she just decided to stay focused on their plan.
"Hun, I need you to focus on my breathing and try to follow it. Ok?" She asked, raising her hand when she saw Elijah and Kol's movements to come towards her. She shook her head, asking them to stay at their place.
Enzo nodded before focusing his senses on her breathing. He could hear calm, even breaths. He decided to follow them, willing his other senses to diminish and allowing his whole focus on his hearing.
"Ok, ok, really good. I'm just gonna open this. But you have to focus on just my breathing, ok. Not anything else. Just in and out," Andrea commanded, making him nod as she moved towards his cell and opened the latch. It seemed as if they had hurriedly locked him inside and had forgotten to put an actual lock on the door, well better for her.
She pushed the door as it swung open, making Enzo stand up and rush towards her. He heard her breathing stutter and saw her flinch back before calming herself. She looked him straight in the eyes and pushed him backwards.
"Hey!" She protested, trying to appear calm, but on the inside, she was freaking out. That was too close, she had to tread carefully, or she might become the next vampire meal, and that did not sound pleasant. At all.
While she was contemplating her next move, Enzo gazed at her, taking in her form. She had a fierce expression on her face, and he could see that she was maintaining enough distance to bolt at any moment, he did not like that, but he understood why she was cautious. He had not been fed properly for years, and the last half-assed meal he had was two weeks ago and he was hungry, the sight of her blood had almost sent him into a frenzy, but the realization that she was his mate had reined him in at the right moment.
