"Shh," Andrea whispered, placing a finger on Elijah's lips, and wiping the sweat from his forehead. They were in Damon's car, on their way back to the Mikaelson mansion. Everyone had agreed to give Elijah some space while he expelled the venom from his system. So, Andrea found herself sitting in the backseat of Damon's car with Elijah's head resting on her lap.
Just then a particularly large bumper almost knocked Elijah right off his seat, making Andrea let out a yelp at the sudden jolt, "Damon would you please!"
Damon looked at her through the mirror raising his eyebrow at her frustrated look, she could only imagine what a mess she looked right about now; tears staining her cheek, her hair all over places and smudges of dried-up blood in her knotted hair and forehead. If her mom saw her now she would probably have a heart attack.
Oh god her mom! She had no idea if her parents and Alec were okay if they were Searching for her, making all vain efforts. She knew they wouldn't find her, she was in a whole another world, another dimension, probably. How could she forget that they had no idea of her whereabouts, her disappearance was sudden and shock even to her.
'No Andrea calm down' she repeated in her head, it was no time to panic, one situation at a time. She tried to push away the traitorous thoughts that had surfaced from the depths of her mind. She couldn't afford to lose control now, especially in the current situation. Suddenly, She felt a hand squeeze hers making her intake a shaky breath and look down.
She smiled reassuringly at him caressing his hair when she saw the concern in his eyes, what had she done to deserve a man like him to care for her. Elijah was always portrayed as a family man, a guy who cared most for his family, he would die for them and his care was now somehow being bestowed upon her making a tear slide out of her eyes. Even when he was fighting the most atrocious of pains he was concerned about her.
Her hand grasped his tightly, her fingers wrapping around his as if to anchor him to the present. "Everything will be okay soon," she promised, pouring all her conviction into the words, hoping that it would be enough to convince both him and herself.
Andrea lifted her head to meet the gaze of the Salvatore brothers and asked, "Do you got a clean cloth or something here"
"Look in the back, there might be a napkin or something" Stefan answered her, looking concerned at the vampire whose breathing kept getting heavier.
He kept struggling to breathe, the prisoner was right, The venom coursing through his veins was far more potent than the werewolf venom he had experienced before. He had felt the venom before when Klaus had bitten him in retaliation, this was way different. Though, He felt some relief in knowing that he wouldn't succumb to hallucinations that could potentially take him down the dark path of his twisted mind, forcing him to confront the heinous crimes he had committed, revealing to Andrea, his monstrous side.
Maybe that's what having a mate was like, even though he was suffering, and even as he lay there in agony. Despite the pain, there was a sense of relief that came with the mere knowledge that Andrea wouldn't think any less of him. But what he didn't know was that even if she saw him at his worst, she wouldn't judge him. She had seen them at their best and worst moments and felt their regrets and accomplishments, she was the one person who if it came to it would show them unconditional acceptance and wouldn't think any less of them.
She glanced outside as the car stopped, heaving a relieved sigh at the view of the tall mansion, her hands loosening their grip on the leather seat of Damon's car. She didn't know what damage her nails had caused to the seat but at this moment she couldn't care less, what mattered now was getting Elijah Klaus's blood.
Damon opened the door to the backseat gesturing for her to move out so he could grab Elijah. She took his hand gently sliding Elijah's head from her lap, but before she could exit the car, her hand was tightly gripped by him, making her stop in her tracks.
She closed her eyes and bit her lip slightly, willing away the tears that threatened to escape. Taking a deep breath she tried to move his hand, prompting him to loosen his grip. "Just a few moments, love" She didn't know where the last word had slipped out of, but she pushed the thought aside quickly, unwilling to dwell on it.
As Elijah gradually loosened his grip, Andrea swiftly withdrew, ensuring that Damon and Stefan had enough space to help Elijah get out of the car. They slowly and carefully helped him out, and once he was standing, Stefan stepped aside to allow Andrea to take his place. She stood by Elijah's side, holding his arm and providing him with a shoulder to lean on as they navigated their way towards the house. Despite the pain and discomfort, Elijah remained stoic and composed, battling away the spell of unconsciousness.
As they entered the house, they saw Klaus sitting on the sofa with his head in his hands. He looked up when he heard them enter the room, his eyes having hues of yellow, a hint of his werewolf side. His face was sporting a look of grimace as if he was in pain, making Andrea stare at him in concern, "What's wrong?"
But it was Kol who answered, "We don't know what happened, but it seems like whoever snapped his neck did not spare any mercy, it appeared to be snapped multiple times, and with potent force, he's still feeling slight discomfort and pain" Andrea nodded looking a little worried, maybe she should have waited to get Enzo out, but no, she couldn't bare the thought of him suffering more than he needed to at the hands of those so-called do-gooders.
Klaus immediately was by her side when he saw her expression, offering a reassuring smile as their eyes met, hoping to alleviate her worries. However, she found herself sinking deeper and deeper into her guilt as she reflected on the events that had just transpired. She knew given a choice she would do the same thing but maybe she could have done it better. Perhaps if she had gone alone, Elijah wouldn't have had to suffer the excruciating pain of the venom. These thoughts continued to circle her mind, consuming her with regret and self-doubt, feeding onto her remorse.
As she stood lost in thought, her mind filled with worry and anxiety. Suddenly, a delicate touch on her cheek brought her back to the present moment, and she looked up to see Elijah standing beside her, his gentle hand wiping away her tears. She hadn't even realized she was crying until he intervened, and she felt ashamed, she didn't even notice when Klaus had fed him his blood, too lost in her own thoughts, "I'm so sorry," she said, trying to stop herself from crying, but her words were followed by a sob.
"It's not your fault, Ástin" He replied, Klaus nodding in agreement with Elijah's statement, "No one could have seen this coming"
"But-" Elijah shook his head keeping a finger on her lips, his eyes reflecting utmost compassion and sincerity making her stare at him a little taken aback.
"I would do this again, any of us would if it meant ensuring your happiness and well-being. You are of utmost importance to us. I know that you just met us but we have waited centuries for you. I had lost hope, all of us did of ever finding our mate, we thought we were cursed to walk this land alone but then you appeared that day, our mate" Elijah said to her earnestly, stepping closer to her.
She looked up at him, her eyes wide with surprise, his words finally catching her attention. For a moment, they both stood there, frozen, as the weight of his words hung heavily in the air. It was as if the very atmosphere had shifted, the silence suddenly more profound. His hands, almost instinctively, reached for her face, his fingertips landing gently on her skin. She flinched, moving away from his touch. He realized what he had just said, in the heat of the moment, what he had just revealed, his hand hung in the air before he finally pulled away, his hands falling to his side as his fists clenched at the look of horror on Andrea's face.
"Mate?" Andrea whispered.
