She started acting at a young age, but it wasn't until start of 6th grade, she got a big break out role. She had to leave Japan and go to America, soon returning after 6 years.
She isn't really athletic, but her great singing makes up for it. Along with acting and some dancing.
Her mother is her biggest supporter, according to Shirai herself.

"Saki, don't worry. Just smile and get through this. We've done too much for you to stop, so just do this for mommy, okay?"
"Okay. But, can I visit Setsuna and Suguru after this? Can we go back to Japan?"
"Absolutely not."
"Okay."

"Perfect."
Sakaya sets down the last flower bouquet on the table. After perfectly setting a dozen of them on each circle table, for the guests.
She feels greatly accomplished.
"What's that smile for?" Kuroo asks, hauling boxes out from the storage closet.
"Tetsurou, look how amazing I am." she displays her bouquets in front of him. "You see?"
He blankly stares at them, unimpressed.
"Yeah, I see. Go get some chairs." he unenthusiastically demands her.
She huffs her breath and furrows her eyebrows, not satisfied with his reaction to her hard work.
"I think they look nice." Kenma mutters, setting down a speaker in the corner.
"Thank you Kenma!" she cheerfully says and skips away.
Sakaya approaches the lined up chairs, but before grabbing one she noticed a figure around the corner. Instantly, she peaks her head towards it and finds her sister.
"Whatcha got there, Sister-chan?" she scares Setsuna.
"Just double checking my French book, in case I have to speak any tonight." she tells her.
"Oh, weewee I see." Sakaya says, mocking a French accent.
Setsuna gives her an unsettling stare. "It's oui oui. Not weewee."
"Yeah that's all I know. But no worries, I can handle the people who speak English! I'm quite great at it."
Sakaya brags.Setsuna merely nods her head and closes the book, taking herself else where.
