Come to the party with us, they said, it will be fun, they said. And of course, I caved again and tagged along. Now I was sitting in the humongous backyard of one of my classmates, bored out of my mind and a little bit tipsy. My friends Leigh-Anne and Marcus were seated next to me and occasionally tried to involve me in their conversation about TikTok-boys and beauty gurus. Once again, we laughed about a TikTok we had all seen, after which they fell back into their discussion on who was hotter, Josh Richards or Noah Beck, and my mind drifted away again.
My eyes landed on a black-haired girl with brown eyes and a charming smile. Camila Mendes. The host of the party, the owner of the chair I was sitting in and also, my former crush.
Yeah, I still remember the day nine months ago that I realized it. Another party, also at her house at the end of summer. Back then I didn't realize the pain she would unknowingly cause me. For 6 months I didn't sleep over the fact that I was absolutely in love with her and she was as straight as a ruler. I cried every day for months and she became the only thing on my mind. But like I said, she was my former crush. I don't remember exactly where the turning point was, but suddenly I was on the other side of the hill and my longing for her became less and less. I guess that if you wait long enough eventually everything goes away. Now when she talks to me or touches me, I don't freeze anymore. And I could not be happier to be out of that hellhole. Really if I could go back in time I would-
"You know, staring at her is not the way to go if you actually want her to notice you, hun."
An unfamiliar voice pulled me from my thoughts. I looked at the direction that the voice had come from and was met by two piercing blue eyes.
"What?" My eyes turned back to the brown eyed girl.
"The longing stare? You're gonna tell me, you're not uncontrollably crushing on Miss Hot Stuff right there?" The unknown girl tilted her head.
My eyes flickered between the blond and the dark-haired girl again. "Wha-, so just because I'm looking at her, I'm crushing on her?"
"Yes, you can't look at a girl that way and not be in love with her." The blond girl crossed her arms across her chest and sat down.
"Okay miss Expert, so what? You're just gonna declare me as gay without knowing me at all?" I scoffed.
"Yeah girl, you give off major gay vibes. And I can say my gay-dar is pretty great, I diagnosed myself as gay too and boy, was I right." The girl answered.
"So you are gay?" I asked.
"Yep, and you?"
"Bi."
"Aha! So I wasn't that far off then!" The blond girl said triumphantly.
"No, I guess you weren't." I rolled my eyes.
"And you have a crush on Camila?" The girl asked.
"Had."
"Had?"
"Had. I had a crush on her. The biggest crush anyone has ever had, I think. The reason I'm staring at her is because I'm processing seeing her again after overcoming my crush." I confessed, not knowing why I was so comfortable sharing all of this with a random girl.
"Ah... well, I can tell you, I've been there too. Camila, she's one pretty girl. Also, too nice and caring for this world. Crushed on her for about 3 weeks, before we became too close of friends for it to continue." The blond girl stated.
"Hmm... so you're friends with her now? That must be why you're here, cause I've never seen you in school."
"Yep, don't know why I even came. High school parties are boring." The girl faked a yawn.
"I might be the only person here who agrees with you on that." I said. I definitely am.
"Yeah, I thought so. It's just a lot of beerpong, cheating and throwing up. Nobody ever wants to go on an adventure anymore." The girl looked at her hands.
"Couldn't agree more. I try to get my friends to go explore the city with me and all they wanna do is sit and watch TikTok's all day." I'm starting to like this girl more and more. And what she said next might have upped it another level.
"So, wanna go on an adventure?"
"What?" Again, I was taken aback by the girls' bluntness.
"We'll grab some vodka and a bag of chips and go. I know a place we should explore." The blond girl stood up, obviously very excited.
"Just you and me? You wanna go into the night with a stranger?" I asked the girl full of disbelieve. This girl was out of her mind.
"Yes, otherwise it wouldn't be an adventure, would it?" The girl grinned.
"Okay, fuck it, sure, I'll go with you. But shouldn't we at least exchange names, lol?" I stood up and grabbed the vodka bottle and a half-eaten bag of Doritos from the table. What could go wrong?
"Oh no, you're not getting my name that easy. You'll have to proof you're fun before I give that to you." The girl said determined. "Now come on, let's get adventurous."
And with that me and the strange girl left the party. We tried to sneak out unseen by our friends, but didn't notice the 3 pairs of eyes that were on us the entire time.
As soon as the we were out the door, Camila sat down next to Leigh-Anne and Marcus.
"Soo, they just left. I can't believe it went exactly like you said it would go!" Camila said.
"I mean my masterplan wasn't based on random theories, my dear Camila. We all knew our nerd would be bored out of her mind at this party." Leigh-Anne answered.
"Yes, and when you told us about your blunt, hot gay friend we knew we had to match them. And boy, she doesn't have a filter at all, does she?!" Marcus added.
"No, hahaha, but I love that about her, and I think your friend will like that too." Camila smiled.

"So, where are we going, miss Blue-Eyes?" I asked. We had been walking through Camila's neighbourhood for about 5 minutes and it would be an understatement to say I was curious about where this girl was taking me.
"Miss Blue-Eyes. Is that your new nickname for me? I gotta say I thought you'd be more creative than that." The stranger bit her lip.
"Well, I'm sorry but I know literally nothing about you. I don't know what else to call you, it was the first thing that caught my eye about you. I'll shorten it though, Miss Blue-Eyes is too long. It's just Blue from now on." I reasoned.
"Hmm... okay, well if I'm Blue, you can be Rumi." The blond girl, who I had now named Blue, stated.
"What? Rumi? Why Rumi?"
"Blue and Rumi? You know, Beyoncé's daughters? Oh my God, don't you know anything? I thought that was pretty obvious." Blue looked at me as if I were the dumbest human being ever.
"Well, I'm sorry that I'm not down with the kids these days. It's a lot of names and drama that isn't even interesting. But sure, I'll be Rumi, although, I'm not talented enough to be Beyoncé's daughter." I laughed. Imagine being Beyoncé's daughter?
"You're pretty enough to be Beyoncé's daughter." Blue said.
I blushed. That was so sweet. It's definitely not true, but well, a compliment like that once in a while can lift your confidence a lot.
"Why, thank you Blue, you're not going soft on me, are you now?"
"Don't worry, my friend, I'll stay a rock, always. It was just a truthful fact that had to be stated. No big deal." But she didn't look at me anymore.
"Well, for what it's worth, I think you, are more than pretty enough to be Beyoncé's daughter." I said. I never flirt. Never. I'm not good at it. But she brings it out of me I guess.
"Thanks, Rumi. Now, catch me if you can."
"What?"
And then she started sprinting away, into the darkness. "Wait, strange- Blue, wait, where are you going?"
But she didn't stop, so the only thing I could do was sprint after her. This was going to be a long night.
