I've shown you a simple cover and a manip cover, there are certainly many other types of cover designs but those two are used most often.
Here is a list of a few other cover types.
1) Simple Cover - a single image with no added layers
2) Manip Cover - multiple layers manipulated together to appear as one image
3) Collage cover- a collection of images that represent your story
4) 'Vector' cover- a painted image that represents your story

A collage can take any shape, this one happens to be triangles. I've seen circles or squares and so on. It doesn't matter as long as it's a collection of images.

This is what most people on Wattpad call a vector cover, it's essentially a painted-over image. (they should be called painted covers because this is not what the word vector means but we won't get into that debate right now) Thanks to lantea- for the example.

A current trend in 'cozy romances' are the, I guess best description for them is cartoon-like images.

There is a difference between these professionally drawn images, like on the cover above, and having your, cousin's son's neighbor's kid who is good at art draw you a cover. We like to call these covers refrigerator art because that's where they belong. (I did not coin this phrase, graphic designers commonly use it for non-professionally hand-drawn covers)
You'll find all kinds of different cover designs if you Google covers. Good versions and truly awful ones. Trying Googling 'lousy book covers' sometime, it's entertaining.
