I mentioned using a clipping mask earlier in another chapter so let's talk a little more about it.

A clipping mask 'pins' one image to another. It can help you change the look of an image. It will also help the clipping image conform to the edges of the image you clipped it to so it seamless. 

This is the base image we're going to use for the example. It's a very simple one but it will help you get the idea of how the clipping mask works.

We drag the plaid layer onto the flower image

We drag the plaid layer onto the flower image. As you can see it's now covering the flower. It's simply layered on top and as it is it won't do much except hide the flower.
