Joe's POV (temporary)

I let out a yawn, covering my mouth and fanning it as if that would somehow help. I couldn't help but notice how pretty the sky looked today. Fluffy white clouds smudged across its baby blue backdrop. Some might say that taking joy in looking at something so pretty is 'girly' or whatever. But personally, I don't believe in that crap. A guy can look at a pretty sky if a guy wants to!
I put my hand into my jacket pocket, riled up over the imaginary conversation I had worked myself into. I spared a glance at a nearby clock.
CRAP!
It's 10:48 AM! My third period just started three minutes ago!
Tossing the memory of my internal chat behind, I bolted down the hallway and up the stairs.
"Oh hey, Jo- AH!"
Whoopsie! Sorry random friend, but I've got a class to get to. I continued my run, promising myself that I'd apologize to that poor person later. I barely even grazed 'em anyways.
After what seemed like forever of running, I finally skidded to a stop at the door. Room 301. Hands on my knees, I gave myself a second or two to catch my breath. I may be in shape, but just the anxiety of being late was enough to send my breathing into orbit! Sure, I'm late all the time. But it's not like I want to be! I just get distracted. That's all.
Anyways, break time's over. I pushed the door open, dawning a bright smile as I gazed around the room. The teacher hardly even noticed me. Actually, I don't think he noticed me at all! Awkwardly, I side-stepped inside, trying to find my seat.
Oh, Sara's looking at me. Hi Sara!! I don't really know Sara that much, but I've asked her for answers here and there when the lessons flew over my head. So pretty much all of the lessons. She seems like a nice girl.
I made my way over to her since her seat was directly in front of mine. As I sat down, my best friend Ryoko gave me a wave. Ryoko was sitting right next to me. She was an inch or two taller than me and had jet black hair that stopped just at her elbows. If I'm being honest, she's really pretty. And funny, and nice, and kind, and cute, and- Wait! That makes it sound like I like her. I don't, I promise! Well, I like her as a friend obviously. But I've never really thought of Ryoko as more than a best friend.
I glanced up at the teacher's board, trying to make sense of the jumbled words.
"-but that shouldn't be that hard for you all. For your group assignment, you will be focusing on-"
Whoa whoa whoa. Group assignment? On what? Oh. He just said that a second ago. I probably should have kept listening. I'll just ask Sara.
I poked the brownish orangeish-haired girl in the back. "Sara!" I whisper-shouted, "What group assignment?"
She turned her head ever so slightly towards me, trying to make it seem like she was still listening to the teacher. Knowing her, she was probably somehow listening to him at the same time. "It's a group assignment over To Kill a Mockingbird. Do you wanna be in my group? Mr. Teacher assigned Ryoko and me to be in a group but he didn't give us a third person because of the odd class number," she responded.
"Hell yeah!" Mr. Teacher sent me a glare at my sudden outburst. I covered my mouth and gave him a look of innocence. Whoops! Sorry. Sara turned her head back to the teacher. I leaned back in my chair, trying to make it look like I was listening.
This was sure to be fun!
