"Come onnnnn." I smacked my steering wheel. This was the third time this week I was running late. And by running lat I mean I was supposed to be there 20 minutes ago. Assistants can get fired. It's pretty simple really. You're late this many times and they kick you to the curb. My clock at home is broken. At least, the one I usually use. I don't have an excuse. I gotta get up earlier. The busy morning streets of England weren't helping me out with time either.
My eyes scanned rapidly for a parking place. Unsuccessful. I was going to have to park pretty far and practically sprint to not be later than I am. I mean it probably couldn't get worse than this. I had never been this late. Sure I had been late but not almost half an hour late. I took the keys out of ignition and hastily grabbed everything I needed before closing the door and running down the street. I probably could have gotten there sooner if I ran from him to be honest.
I my feet hit the ground rather loudly. I wasn't wearing the right shoes for this. I should start wearing different shoes for occasions such as these. I ran quickly up the steps, trying not to slow down. The door hand,Ed my stop as I stuck out my arms to soften the blow of stopping.
I swung open to door and walked quickly inside. Adjusting my hair and trying not to look so panicked. Doubt it's working.
"I'm sorry I'm late. I don't have an excuse." I was out of breath. But I calmly walked into the back to put my bag down.
"Well you better have an excuse." It was John's sour voice I heard. I took a deep breath and prepared myself.
"I don't have a good excuse for you." I didn't meet John's gaze. John intimidated me. He always found something wrong with whatever I was doing. To be fair this time I was very wrong with everything I was doing.
"Well if you have no excuse, you should be on time."
"John!" Paul's voice came sharply.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled.
"Don't let it happen again!" John snapped.
My eyes were on the floor. They weren't about to move up any time soon. I sighed and went to the coffee machine to get what was left of the coffee. I couldn't lose this job. This job was proving to my family that I can make it on my own.
"Sorry about him Love." Paul came up behind me. "He doesn't mean to be so harsh."
"Yeah." I still looked down. I was embarrassed. Embarrassed to be late. Embarrassed to be yelled at by one of my bosses.
"Don't let him get to you y/n. You're doing fine."
"I don't think John agrees with you." I mumbled.
"Hey, look at me." I met his eyes. "You're fine, don't beat yourself up."
-Time Skip brought to you by "They say your haircuts are un American." "Well that's quite observant of them, because we aren't American actually."-
I rushed around. Dropping papers. Like the classic girl in the halls who runs into the main character and drops all her things and then they fall in love. Subtract the love and the school and the main character, and you'll be in range of me. I'm just convinced that John hates me and doesn't want me on the job. And every girl and her Neighbor wants the job I have, there's no question about finding someone fit for my job.
It's safe to say I'm stressed out. And it's safe to say the work performance suffers a little. I keep dropping things.
"Come on then. Quit dropping things." John barked.
I'm still trying quite hard not to cry. It's overwhelming. I'm not looking for a pity party, that's not the l/n way. I'm not being the stupid side character who can't keep it together.
"Sorry sir," Was all I mumbled to John "I'll try not to let it happen again."
"You'll try or you will?" (Isn't John just the best person to talk to? It's like we're best friends.)
"I will sir."
"Good." He turn on his heals and walked away quite briskly. Am I supposed to follow him? I just looked around quite confused.
"Here y/n, why don't you put those papers on this desk here." Paul walked over and gestured to a table. He put his hand on my upper back in a gesturing manner. "Would you like some help with that?" He didn't even wait for me to respond before grabbing half of the messy stack and carrying them to the table.
"Thank you." A small smile tugged at the sides of my mouth.
"You're very welcome y/n, happy to lend a hand. Keep up the good work." He wandered off, leaving me smiling to myself and organizing papers.
I think I'm going to give this a part two. Reason one, I don't know how to make this short and blunt (and I don't want to) and two, because it's almost been two weeks since I wanted to upload this. Oops. Hope you enjoyed and please stay tuned for a part two. Y'all are great.
Stay Lovely 😊
