"Then put the poultice right here." ordered Daisyear. Ravenkit put the ointment gently onto Acorntree's light brown back. He winced, and Ravenkit drew back.
"Did that hurt?" she asked, worried.
"It helps them, Ravenkit." Daisyear told her. "It may sting at first, but he's alright now. See?" The tom realaxed and layed back down on the moss. To Ravenkit, he looked uncontious, but Diasyear told her he's just tired.
"Let's leave him alone to rest, Ravenkit." Daisyear strode out of the den and Ravenkit trotted after her. "You were a good helper today."
"I love helping!" she meowed. "When do you think I'm going to be apprenticed?"
"Not for another moon, I'm afraid." Daisyear licked her paw and drew it over her ear. "But it's not that long, right? Then I can take you out to see all the plains and where to find herbs. Also you can see the lake."
"What's a lake?" Ravenkit heard the elders talk of it many times, but no cat ever told her what it was.
"You know a puddle?" Daisyear meowed. Ravenkit nodded. "It's like one of those but way, way bigger. Bigger than our camp." Ravenkit's eyes widened.
"Really? That's huge!"
"It's prettier when you see it for yourself. But one time, it shrunk because the river stopped flowing. All the fish died and it was very, very dry and muddy. But then a group of cats from each Clan, including Windclan, went to go find the water again."
"Did they?"
"They sure did. Animals called beavers were blocking the river. They had to fight them off. But that was a long, long time ago."
"Older than Mother?" Ravenkit asked.
Daisyear purred. "Way older. Speaking of your mother, where is she?"
"She went hunting. But she's coming back pretty soon." Ravenkit told her. "She said she was tired of being cramped in her den." Flamekit rushed up to her.
"I'm bored! And the new kits can't even play a simple game!" Flamekit complained. A moon ago, Rabbitfoot had given birth to three kits. The nursery was smaller now, because they had to move in. Ravenkit didn't like to be in there because they took up all the room.
"I can play a game with you." Ravenkit looked up at Daisyear for permission. She nodded and Ravenkit walked over to her brother. "We can play, Catch the Tail."
"Naw'." Flamekit looked around. "Let's climb that rock over there!" He pointed to a large rock with many crevices used for footholds.
"Okay!" Ravenkit bolted over to the rock and started climbing. It was steep and she struggled against it's slippery survace. Flamekit had already made it to the top while Ravenkit was stuck on a ledge.
"Help me!!" she meowed dramatically. Flamekit reached down with a paw, and Ravenkit held onto her brother's paw. "Help!" Flamekit tugged, and tried to haul her up. Suddenly Flamekit lost his balance and tumbled onto Ravenkit. She squealed and fell downwards. Instead of a hard rock, a soft pelt took the blow of the two kits. Ravenkit rolled off the pelt and realised it was Lilypool, the deputy.
"I'm so sorry, Lilypool!" Ravenkit gasped. The deputy sat up and grunted. She gazed at Ravenkit good-heartedly.
"What? Are you playing a game of Attack the Deputy?" she meowed. Ravenkit realaxed. She wasn't mad at them.
"Actually, we were climbing until Flamekit fell on top of me!" Ravenkit swatted her brother with her tail.
"It's not my fault you are fat!" he protested. Ravenkit jumped ontop of her brother and they rolled around in a play fight. Lilypool dodged the tumbling kits. Ravenkit held her brother down on the grass.
