The kiss had been gentle, caring, but needing. Desire flared. All I could think about were his arms wrapped around me, while his lips molded perfectly to mine. The smell of his cologne. The sparks that ignited with a single touch. When we had to pull away for oxygen, he leaned his forehead against mine. We stared at each other for what seemed like hours. I leaned up giving him a single peck on the lips, before falling back into his arms and gazing off into the fire. I watched as it sparked and crackled. The flames twirled, grew, and ran along the wood with purpose. This moment was pure bliss. My eyelids started to grow heavy and decided to rest them just for a moment.
Light licked at my face, as a cool breeze floated across my skin. I turned my head, and snuggled closer to the warmth. When I realized I couldn't escape the light or chill, I tentatively opened my eyes. I was still in front of the fireplace. The sun rays lit the room bringing it to life. I went to get up, but realized something was holding me down. Turning my head Keagon was leaned up against the couch, his head resting back on the cushions, with his arms wrapped around me tightly.
"Keagon." I whispered wanting to get out of this position before Sophie came down stairs.
"Keagon," I tried again, wiggling.
"Claire, stop moving like that!" He groaned, his voice husky from sleep making me freeze in my spot.
He pulled me closer to him, snuggling his face in the back of my neck, making me shiver.
"Keagon. We need to get up before Sophie sees us like this!" I didn't want the little girl getting any crazy ideas.
He groaned again. "I know, but I'm so damn comfortable." I let a giggle escape at his reluctance.
"Come on, the kids aren't up yet. Lets make breakfast." I decided.
He nodded his head still in my hair, then finally loosened his hold. I jumped up before he had a chance to grab another hold of me, and headed for the kitchen.
After breakfast was done, I made my way back upstairs, ready to shower. Both of the kids were still asleep from such a long night, and we had gotten up early.
"So what are your plans today?" Keagon asked as we all sat at the table.
"Well I have a few erronds to run, so I planned on doing that later. How about yourself?" I asked politely. I felt so comfortable here. I need out of the house, away from this man who was stiring up weird feelings for me.
"I have work at 3. Sophie will be at Paige's." I nodded. "Do you want to see is Paige will watch Nick as well, so it will be easier to get everything done."
I thought for a moment and decided against it. I liked having Nick with me all the time. I shook my head. "No, I enjoy his company. Plus, it makes it more fun!" He chuckled to himself.
"I understand that." I smiled before picking up all the plates and heading for the sink. It was the least I could do. Keagon tried to stop me, but I just shooed him away.
Three o'clock came around, and I took Nick and the car seat heading for my house. It was a quick walk. I rushed to strap in the seat in correctly and get him situated. It was getting colder every day! After sitting in the car for a moment, waiting for it to warm up, I headed towards Walmart.
Halfway through the drive I started having a bad feeling. I felt like I was being watched. I looked in the rearview mirror and spotted a jeep traveling close behind. I was up on the highway and decided to see if I was just being paranoid, so I took the next exit. I started freaking out when I realized they also took the exit. Going to pull out my phone I quickly dialed Keagon's number. I pushed down on the break, and froze. Nothing happened. Stomping on the breaks, I had to figure out something quick. A stop sign was coming up, and buildings were everywhere. I paniced.
I looked back at Nick with wide eyes, forgetting that Keagon was probably on the phone. "I love you baby boy," I whispered looking forward. "I'm sorry!" The car was still going too fast, I tried stomping on the break more. "Come on! Come on!" I begged the car to stop. "Please!"
I realized I was hopeless. I tried moving the car to where I knew I would take most of the impact. Tears were now streaming down my face. And I was sobbing. I saw my life flash my eye. Playing with my older brother as child. Hanging out with Macy. Giving birth to Nick. Kissing Keagon. Everything stopped for a second as I look back at Nick. He didn't even know anything was wrong. He was in his own little world.
Everything that happened next was a blur. I remember screaming as I smashed into something, I didn't even know what I hit. I was too busy staring at my baby. I reaized that everything became blurry, then the worst noise I had ever heard echoed through the car. Nick screaming bloody murder. I heard a door open, and his screaming becoming distant. I started screaming his name over and over, before my door was open. I felt something hard hit my head, pain exploding everywhere, before everyting went black.
