Chapter 10

The door opened and my dad came into the room, Uric right behind him. A look of surprise appeared on both their faces as they saw us but Dad’s was soon replaced with a smile.

“Wow,” he said. “I should know next time not to give you the keys to your mother’s room, but you all look beautiful. Juliette, when I walked into the room I swore I could see your mother standing there.”

“You look totally hot,” Uric said. “Where’s my real sister and what have you done with her?”

“Just a little facial and hair-cut and I lot of chocolate,” Ella teased and pinched Uric’s cheeks. “My, Uric, you look so cute in that shirt. Would you like me to fix you hair for you?”

“No thanks,” Uric said with a smile and ran to me.

We all had to laugh at that.

“Thanks you guys,” I said and hugged everyone. “Especially you girls. You still stuck with me even though I haven’t been the best friend.”

“What are girlfriends for,” Melanie said and she and Ella hugged me tightly, Uric getting caught in the hug as well.

“So are we ready to go?” Dad asked and we nodded at me. “Okay, let me just change into a clean shirt. You girls and guy go and wait for me in the truck.”

“Okay,” we all said and went out the room.

“That was the best fun I had in ages,” Melanie said as she took Uric’s hand and began swinging it as we walked down the stairs. “Who ever thought you could be just like a Barbie doll.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” I said as the others laughed and we went out into the porch.

“So,” Ella said as we sat down. “How long have you and Avan been going out for?”

“What?! We are so not going out; we’re just friends. More like acquaintances; I don’t even know his last name.”

         Big lie.

“You say that now,” Melanie teased. “But when you get to know him better; that was how it was for me and Frankie.”

“Hey, twelve-year-old boy here,” Uric said. “I don’t what to hear about your gross love lives.”

“You still haven’t told me about who you two got together,” I said ignoring Uric’s comment as the girls giggled. “You will tell me before the day is over.”

“Don’t worry,” Ella said, patting my arm. “You will hear everything. Now here comes your Dad.”

Dad opened the front door and beamed at us. He was dressed in a white shirt with a grey and blue striped tie.

“So?” he asked and I looked at my girls.

“Lose the tie,” Ella and Melanie both said and I nodded.

“You guys are the experts,” Dad said and pulled off his tie.

He then took out the keys for his truck and we went to the drive-way. Uric sat in the front seat while us girls sat in the back and we were soon off. The June Bonfire was always held in the field on the outskirts of the town. It was about a half hour drive to get there and the truck was filled with girl chatter and Uric’s boyish complaints. I saw my dad smiled every time I laughed and I guess he was happy to see me so happy again. I was happy as well; it was great to be with my friends again after being stuck up in my room for three months.
