Chapter 13

“Avan, don’t,” I said, placing my hands on his trembling chest. “You’re no match for Dominic; you’ll get hurt.”

“You should listen to her, you know,” Dominic said, a smirk on his face. “She is smarter than you.”

“That’s it!” Avan exclaimed and pushed me away from him.

I stumbled back and landed on my ass with a small sound of surprise. When I looked up, there was the loud noise of ripping clothes and my favourite Wolves stood growling at each other. Remains of their clothing littered the ground and before I could beg them to stop, they ran into the forest, chasing each other.

“Guys!” I cried getting up and was about to follow them when someone shouted my name.

         It was Dad.

“Stay right there, Juliette,” Dad said, coming out of the party and I realized the festivity had stopped when everyone felt the tremor in the air.  “I’ll go get them. Ella and Melanie, keep an eye on my daughter and Uric.”

“Yes, sir,” Ella and Melanie said, who had followed Dad out and Ella was holding a frightened Uric’s hand.

They were at my side in an instance.

“Look at the back of your dress,” Ella said with a sigh as Uric threw his arms around my waist. “It’s ruined. What were you doing?”

“Nothing,” I muttered as I watch Dad pick up some of the whole remains of Avan and Dominic’s clothes and get into his truck.

“Was Dominic in the fight?” asked a voice that made my blood boil and I turned around to see Haliee standing in the doorway, a hand on her round belly.

“Yes,” Melanie said whose face I noticed was a bright pink and her hair was all messed up. “But don’t worry, he’ll be fine. It’s Dominic.”

Haliee nodded and gave us a small smile. Some of the older woman came to her side and guided her back inside.

“We should go as well,” Ella said, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder and I looked away from the forest.

“I guess,” I muttered and we went inside. I hoped Dominic and Avan were all right and both of them would come back alive for me.

 ۵

Waiting for Dad to return with Avan and Dominic was pure agony. Did he find them? Was Dominic or Avan hurt? Was Dad okay?

My patience was greatly rewarded when I heard the sound of my Dad’s truck in the car park.

“They’re here!” I cried, jumping up from my table and upsetting Ella, Melanie, Uric and Melanie’s new boyfriend’s round of tic-tac-toe.

It was girls against boys and the girls were winning.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Haliee get up, but she didn’t matter right now. I ran outside and saw Dad helping Dominic out of the truck. I ran to them and threw my arms around Dominic. He may have done some foolish stuff in the past but I forgave him.
