Saving Shimmer - Wings of Fire Story

Chapter 1

"Hey, wait up." I stumble over my wings and run up to Mercury,

"Oh, hello haha, I didn't even know you were there." He gazes into my eyes and smiles, I accidently blush.

"So, where are you headed?" I ask to take the topic off my myself.

"I am just going up here to check on something that the other guards told me about." He looks and me, "No, I am sorry I can't tell you apparently, but I am going to let you come, just whatever you do don't tell my boss officer."

"I don't even know who he is."

"Well if you see me with another huge sliver-wing wearing a stupid cap then walk the other direction; got that?" he meets my eyes.

"Okay sure." I smile up at him, he doesn't blush, hmmmm.

Mercury looks up and nods, we both take to the sky. I admire our beautiful town from up high all the buildings and the silver dragons talking to each-other. Everyone is so happy, well besides Queen Silver, she is the biggest of all the silver-wings as she is over two hundred!

"Hey Shimmer, come here," Mercury calls out from below.

"Oh, alrighty coming," I soar down to meet him on the ground by a cave.

"This is where they said to go." He said staring in awe.

We stood right before a massive cave hidden behind locks of ivy. The glint of his dark eyes looked back at me, he smiled again. I could not help but smile back. He goes in first, I am completely honest I am a little bit worried to go in like what is in the cave, why has nobody discovered the cave before? It had a misty feeling, like the air was heavy and it was hard to breathe, like you were being swallowed. I took my first step fully into the cave and I felt lost already. The only thing I could see was the glint of Mercury's sliver scales. I walk closer to him and find his talons and wrap mine with his.

As we venture further into the cave it starts with a moister feeling like the air is damp, which probably means water in nearby. A dim light was ahead, so I went ahead and pulled Mercury to follow me and what we come across next is beautiful.

A water fall cascades from the top of the cave it rumbles the large pool of water below, and a bright light shone from a hole near the top of the waterfall.

"Wow, this is incredible. I have never seen anything like this," he squeezes my talons then dives into the water. "The water is so nice how can cave water even be warm?"

I step back run up and jump in, and he is right it is so warm.

"I think it's a natural spring." I smile over at him this is the most time we have spent together recently.

"Must be." He agrees, I swim over to the part of the water where the natural light is shining through and have a look through the hole.

"Wow, Shimmer you look so pretty." I mega blush,

"Well that makes two of us." I look up at him and I see him with a giddy smile. "What? What is it is there something on my face?"

He ducks under the water and disappears for a moment, "Hello?!" And with a huge splash he jumps out of the water and scares me. "You are so evil."

"Yes, I certainly am." He looks up at me and comes to brush his snout against mine. Maybe he does like me after all, he comes into the light I see his blush this time. Mercury and I have been friends for a few years although I always have liked hm more than a friend, but he does not know that. Originally when we met, he was my guard in some outings when the sliver-wings and gold-wings were at war. I am the nephew of Queen Silver and I am the only dragon that can take her for the throne. So, I am considered extremely important. My mother is a few years younger than Silver and she hasn't had and will not have any dragonets because she doesn't want to be challenged. That is why she hates me with a passion, I don't want to rule, but my parents don't want any-other dragonets so I am the only one that can unless for some reason somebody else decides to do it. I don't like the pressure to be queen I want to live with the town people with Mercury. He is kind, gentle and he is the dragon I really care about. After he was assigned different guard duties, he and I have been busy doing other things, I have been thinking about him a lot though. We have a bit of an age gap, I am 6 he is 9, he has dark sliver wings and a lighter sliver underbelly whereas I am mostly all a gleaming sliver besides a few dark silver scales next to my nose.

"I love swimming, I want to swim in this pool all day."

"Sounds great. Let's have a bit more of a swim then we should get gong home." He says, "I really enjoy spending time with you Shimmer. We should spend more time together I missed you when I was assigned to another duty." He looks at his talons then into my eyes. I almost explode with happiness.

"YE-, yeah same here I really like spending time with you and um you." I cannot believe I just said that, omg what arghhhhhhhhhhh! Why would I do that? I took that a step to far.

"I thought it was just me that felt that way." He had a huge smile on his face, I wonder if he feels as excited as I am. Is he just saying that? I have so many questions. Okay cool down Shimmer, cool down think of an answer.

"Really? I never knew if you just liked me as a friend or not." I stumble over my own words. He doesn't say anything and pull me out of the water and puts his wing over me. After a while just sitting there, we fly back in a happy silence to the silver-wing village.

"Bye." I blush and he leaves.

"Bye Shimmer." He smiles a good smile; did I mention he has a smile that will make you melt? I fly back to my room in the main palace, say hello to my Mother and Father then go into my room and get out one of my lagoon plants scrolls. I search through the book but find nothing about the purple vine. So, I boldly decide to go and look in Aunt Silvers palace. As I walk through the embroidered silver hallways, I go behind the throne room to find the classified plant section.
