After requesting entry to Whiteglen, the gates opened up a slight, just enough to let me in and and squeezed my way through the large slabs of wood without raising a shred of suspicious.
The town had no source of light, no street lights or magic orbs like Keryn, just the candle flickering from the windows of the houses and shops.
I entered into the Pickled Hat and the calm atmosphere instantly put my nerves at ease, the clanking of glasses and tankards always made me feel comfortable, like I was somewhere safe, even though bars where rarely safe.
I went to the nearest seat and collapsed into it, melting like a candle in the heat, Dagna came over and slammed a drink down in front of me her lips pressed tight together.
"Oh Dagna, I'm so... happy to see you."
"Did you finish that job princess? Or are you just resting on the job?"
"I did your stupid job, and I nearly got caught so give me a damn break"
"Don't get your panties in a twist, just making sure you aren't being lazy, drinks on the house, take a second for yourself."
The fact Dagna cared at all how I felt showed me how different crime really was here in Whitelgen, back in Keryn if you took even a moments break you'd get a punch in face and told to get back to work.
I felt a strange tingling in my finger, I moved my attention the magical ring I was still wearing, it was as though my mind was filled with the knowledge the ring held as the tingling stopped.
huh, It allows to me to communicate with animals, only 3 times a day but it's still pretty amazing.
I let out the nights stress with my breath, it's nice to take a moment for myself.
There was no avoiding what happened back at the house, well If I had a better look out it might have turned out better, I don't think the guy got a good luck at my face but just to be safe when I go to sell the stuff to the fence I'll use a different face.
The ale I was given tasted fresher than the usual stuff and the temptation to stay glued in my seat was strong but I wanted to get this job done as soon as possible so I swallowed the last mouthful of liquid, stood out my chair and headed towards the market place, I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with this woman.
I went out the back door of the Pickled Hat pretending to go piss, behind the Inn was a thin alleyway that the patrons of the Inn used to urinate but it was also the perfect place to change my face without anyone noticing.
Focusing on my appearance, I felt the skin move and bones restructure, I decided to go for a slightly more rugged look, It might help with intimating the gnome.
The walk over to the stall was pleasant, I'd half expected to see the man running through town shouting about being robbed, though I suppose he wouldn't want to guards snooping around his house if its full of dead bodies, I wonder what that note meant, I felt it in my pocket just to make sure it wasn't a false memory, the crinkle of the paper was proof enough that it happened.
I'll ask about that around town about the note after I've done this job.
Cheris was still at her stall, even at this time in the evening with the sun completely down, most of the stalls had packed up for the night but she stayed up, probably trying to prioritise every penny she could get, luckily no one was shopping we were alone in the market place.
I'll keep the wooden ring, it could probably come in hand and magic items can be pretty hard to come by, it could help in finding Shean.
With my bag containing the collection of precious metals to the side of the stall and left it open enough for her to peer inside.
"I've got some stuff to sell, Dagna said you'd be the person to talk to."
"She'd be right, let me have a look through this."
She rummaged through the bag for a few moments letting out moans and groans, showing her displeasure, she was aware I had high quality goods but she had to intent on showing it.
Ugh... I hate fences.
"I'll give one hundred gold for the lot of it"
The total value of the bag was around three hundred easy, one hundred gold was just a slap in the face.
"Are you serious, one hundred gold for all of that? You have to be joking? Can you not see with those glasses on?"
"I can see just fine, it's all low percent gold, mostly tin, one hundred gold is as good as you're going to get."
"Give me one fifty at least, it was hard to get ahold of and I KNOW what percent it is you blind old bat."
"You think name calling is going to get you what you want."
Her lips pressed together and brow furled in tight, she was getting displeased and quickly and I didn't want to deal with her anymore.
"Fine I'll go melt it down and give it to the smith."
"Okay... okay, calm down, you can have one fifty gold, here."
She pulled out a brown bag of gold and placed in on the table, and pulled my backpack behind the stall, I heard the clattering of her dumping out the contents, she handed me back my backpack and I was happy to be on my way.
As I walked past Cheris's Stall I made sure to snag a few rings off the top of the table for the trouble she was to deal with.
