THE CHILD IN HER

The rays of the moon sneaked into the room through the casement to find
Draupadi sitting in the commonroom and writing a letter.
She was very much interested in writing that she did not notice Arjun entering.

Gaandivadhari was in a way surprised to see his wife's actions and reactions change every minute. First she rested her chin on her hand with a thinking gesture and suddenly her eyes glistened as if getting some idea . She wrote that thought back and again started thinking.

He wanted to know what his dear wife was doing. He  progressed towards his wife and found that she had been writing a letter subjected with a title to my Love.
His heart jolted with joy.
Was his wife writing a letter to him?
What would she have written?

These thoughts  prodded him to  read it. As Draupadi was thinking something again he snatched the letter.

Only then was his queen shaken out of her thoughts. She sprang out of the chair.

"Aarya -- aa" She exclaimed her reaction was both a mixture of astonishment and fear.
Yes said Arjun with a calm face trying to scan the letter.
"Give it to me " She said trying to snatch it.
"No" he said keeping his hand that was holding the scroll behind and giving her a  get - it - if  -you - can look.
She tried endlessly but warrior he was. For every move of her he had a counter action seconds before.

"Don't feel so shy panchali. If it is written to me why do you want to hide it from me" asked Arjun.

"Rajkumar Arjun when did I say I wrote it for you. Give it to me" Said the queen childishly widening her eyes.

"Then let me see who is that person luckier than me  to be adressed as "My Love" by the queen of Indraprastha. " Said Arjun

"Aarya no"said Draupadi.
When she held  her hands forward to get the letter she found two large hands grabbing her wrist.

"Learn it Arjun" echoed the voice of Bheem.
" Aarya" She tried getting rid of his hold but that was a too difficult job.

"Yes I am your Arya. Now I request you to be quiet so that my brother can read the letter written by my wife"said Bheem.

" Read it aloud  Bharatha" Said the twins entering the room with the king.

From the day I was born out of fire

I had a great curiosity to know about

and to experience  that golden phase of

the human life - childhood.

I  wish  I  too  had  been  born  as  an

infant  and   had  crawled  and  cried 

in  the  limbs  of  my  mother.

I  wish I  too 

Could  have  been  gifted  to  sit  in

my  father's  lap  and  hear  stories

and  slip  into  slumber.  I  wish  I   too

Could   have  done  some  mischiefs 

being  a  little  one  only  to  be  

reminisced  by  my  elders  when  I  had 

grown  up.  I   wish  I  too   had  a   chance

to   play  with  dolls  and  a million  more

games  .

When Arjun had completed reading  the letter there was a deadly silence in the room. Everyone glared at their wife while her face had an experience of curiosity to know what their expression would be.

"Was it this you were hiding from us" Asked Bheem.
"You should have told us about it Panchali " Said Nakul in a serious tone.

Yagyaseni was puzzled. We're they really concerned  or were they just making fun.

"Open up priye" She heard Bheem's voice   shaking her out of thoughts.

"Tell us Panchali. I am sure we would help your dreams come true."she heard Sahadev's voice.

May be they were concerned. She thought.

The queen opened up confessing her dreams.

"Yes as you all know when I was born out of fire I was a grown up maiden. I had to act accordinly. But think I was just a one day old child to the world then.
But I wish I too should have had a childhood playing with dolls, decorating them, roaming  around with friends,playing hide and seek and so on. I deliberately  wanted to do all this when I saw little girls moving around the palace back in Panchal. "

Her eyes beheld the excitement when she was explaining.

"Tomorrow all your dreams would turn true" Said Arjun.

Draupadi was surprised and broke into fits of laughter.
"Why do you want to laugh Draupadi" Asked Yudhishthir.

"Like I thought how people around would react seeing their queen playing with dolls"told Panchali.

"They too would feel happy seeing their queen contented "replied the five sternly.

Oh they were really serious.
Thank you God for giving me such caring ones.

"Be ready to live your dreams Draupadi" Said Nakul.

Everyone wished a good night and were ready to go back to their chamber when Arjun suddenly remembered something.

Panchali who did you refer to as Dear Love in the letter. Asked Arjun.

Everyone just turned around to her to get the answer.
"No one in particular. That's not pretty important Arya" Said Draupadi.  The face of the five pandava brothers had a frowned expression. 

"No say who is it"
the five said in a chorus.

"Are you all jealous " She questioned  keeping her face straight holding back her laughter.

"Tell us" Again a chorus.

"Who would it be other than all of you"
She replied.

A smile spread on their faces.
It's not that they don't know the answer but they wanted to hear it from her.

Everyone retired to their respective chambers. Sleep embraced them and taking them to the world of dreams.....
