2nd of September 1975, Hospital Wing, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
"You see Headmaster..." I started uncertainly. "I am a muggle and I am from the future."
Silence.
Then McGonagall gasped.
If Dumbledore was shocked, he didn't show it. I squirmed under his gaze.
"Are you sure Miss..."
"Margaret Wells, Sir."
"Very well then Miss Wells... Is there anything else you can tell us about you?"
"Well yes..." I said. "My name is Margaret Wells, I am fifteen years old and I was born on the 1st of September 2005. The time I come from is the 1st of September in the year 2020, which means I've travelled back nearly half a century."
"Impossible!" spat McGonagall.
"Let the girl speak Minnie..." said Dumbledore calmly.
"It's true!" I said, now annoyed.
"Ah , I think I might have the answer to that..." said Dumbledore quitely, still looking at me. "I believe that last night-"
My eyes widened. "The prophecy!" I exclaimed suddenly, interrupting Dumbledore.
Dumbledore nodded. "Yes, quite right..." he confirmed. "Just last night, Sybill Trelawney approached me. That is when I first learned of the prophecy."
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches..." I quoted softly. Dumbledore nodded again, as if encouraging me to continue. "A fallen angel appearing from nowhere, coming from another world and whose future is the past and the past is now the future... and the Dark Lord will mark her as his equal, but she will have knowledge the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hands of the other, for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord is here..."
"Nonsense!" snorted McGonagall. "Divination is a very impercise and inaccurate branch of magic! How can we know for sure that it is true?"
"Because I'm here, obviously!" I said rolling my eyes.
"Yes, Miss Wells here is a living example of it."
"But I don't quite understand the prophecy." I said plainly.
"Yes, what exactly does it mean?" inquired McGonagall.
" To be honest, I don't know either..." he said. "But I know for certain that the first part of the prophecy has already been fulfilled: The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... A fallen angel appearing from nowhere, coming from another world and whose future is the past and the past is now the future... You Miss Wells, are the fallen angel. You have appeared from nowhere, your future is now the past and the past is now your future."
"I still don't get it."
"You have been sent here for a reason, Miss Wells." said Dumbledore.
"But why? Why me?"
Dumbledore smiled sadly at me. "I cannot answer that because I do not know. But I think... Ah yes... I can only assume from the prophecy that you have been sent here to defeat Voldemort once and for all."
I gasped and turned to look at him. My expression was one of complete and utter shock and horror.
"Wait... You mean that I... Me... That I have... Defeat Voldemort?" I whispered.
McGonagall winced and gasped as I said that very much feared name.
"Yes I'm afraid so." said Dumbledore.
"Miss Wells..." said McGonagall. "Do not say that... That name!"
I slowly turned to look at her.
"Fear of the name only increases the fear itself!" I said proudly, lifting my chin up a fraction. When she didn't say anything, I shouted: "His name is Voldemort!"
McGonagaal winced again.
"You are right indeed Miss Wells." said Dumbledore, smiling at me. "You are one of the very few people, including myself, that do not fear the name."
"I don't see the point in being afraid of the name. He's going to try to kill us either way, so we might aswell use it." I shrugged.
"Right again Miss Wells!" said Dumbledore, his blue eyes twinkling behind his glasses.
But then he turned all serious again.
"But now onto more serious and important matters... Tell us everything you know."
I frowned.
"But Headmaster... Isn't it dangerous to tell you what's going to happen? Won't it alter the time line?" I asked nervously.
"Not if you were sent back to create a new time line altogether."
I nodded, then took a deep breath. If they trusted me so far, then they should believe me now.
"Well..." I started nervously. "In the future, there are seven books, called the Harry Potter series, which were also made into films. They are about the wizarding world. The author is-"
"Books?" exclaimed McGonagall, cutting me off. "Books about our world?"
"Minnie please! Let the poor girl speak!" said Dumbledore.
"As I was saying..." I turned to look at McGonagall. "The author's name is J.K. Rowling."
I took another deep breath.
"Straight out of Hogwarts, Lily Evans married James Potter."
I could feel McGonagall and Dumbledore looking at me.
"Late in the year of 1979, Sybill Trelawney approached Headmaster Dumbledore at the Hog's Head for a place as the teacher of divination. Then the prophecy was made: The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches..." I quoted softly. "Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark his as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other, for neither can live while the other survives..."
"But Dumbledore wasn't the only one who heard the prophecy. Severus Snape, a Deatheater, was spying on them and reported the prophecy to Voldemort. But the prophecy could be about one of two people: Neville Longbottom, son of Alice and Frank Longbottom, born on the 30. of July 1980. Or Harry Potter, son of Lily and James Potter, born 31. of July 1980. Voldemort chose Harry, for he could identify with him as both of them were halfbloods. Most people would think Voldemort is a pureblood but actually, his pureblood mother, Merope Gaunt, married a muggle, Tom Riddle Sr. And that is why Voldemort went after Harry. But Snape only heard and told Voldemort the first part of the prophecy. If he had heard and told the whole prophecy, things would have probably turned out different. Snape, after he found out that Voldemort was after Harry, turned to Dumbledore and begged him for help, which resulted in becoming a double agent and secretly working for Dumbledore. Also at the time, the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organisation created by Dumbledore against Voldemort, had been established and Snape was one of the members. For it turns out that Snape had loved Harry's mother, Lily, for most of his life. If Voldemort had chosen Neville over Harry, Snape would have probably become one of the most loyal Deatheaters in history."
I closed my eyes and took yet another deep breath. This story was about to get ugly...
