Kaz: "Mission complete, Boss. Good work out there."
I sat back in the Aerial Command Center, satisfied with my performance.
Ocelot: "Snake, we have some good news. We've located a few soldiers from the old mother base. They're not exactly close, but they're loyal. I'd say it's time we bring them home."
I nodded to myself, and pressed a button on the side of the IDroid.
Snake: "Just tell me where to go, and I'll make sure they make it back in one piece."
As I say the last few words, I look at Quiet, who is laying on her stomach, staring up at me with her head resting on her left hand.
Ocelot: "Got it, sending the data to your IDroid."
Snake: "Good, Big Boss out."
I switch off the comms feature of the IDroid and look at Quiet.
Snake: "We gotta take these guys out without killing them. Understood?"
Quiet nods, recently she has started using sign language to communicate with me. Though we already seem to be able to understand each other without it.
Quiet: I understand, don't kill the soldiers.
I nod, and hand her the sleeper sniper she made, I think she called it the Guilty Butterfly. She takes it and Pequod informs us we've reached the drop point. I open the door and Quiet leaps 20 feet down to secure the LZ.
I disembark and close the door, before Pequod takes off.
Snake: "See anything?"
Quiet: "Nuh-uh."
I can tell she knows how to speak, and can do so easily. But she only hums and makes noises. Never words.
I tap her on the shoulder and point to a canyon, where a man is stumbling around like a drunk.
She looks up at me, nods, and takes aim.
Snake: "Wait til we get closer." I lightly push her barrel down.
She stands up and nods again. I find a path that leads down into the canyon and Quiet stays right by my side. Normally she moves several hundred feet in seconds, but she seems keen on just walking right now.
I see her eyes widen in horror and she pulls me backwards, knocking me off my feet. I try to raise my head, but she pushes it back down.
She holds her hand up a few inches, letting me know she's going to sign something, then releases me.
Quiet: Not our guy, Skull ambush. Get the f-u-c-k down. Stay low and find cover.
Snake: "Go, I may need cover fire."
Quiet: Not leaving, what if the Skulls find you?
Snake: "Quiet, we aren't arguing about this. Get up on that ridge and cover me."
Quiet nods, but looks worried. She sprints off, this time doing her little disappearing act.
I see the mist settle in, a clear indication that the Skulls were indeed here.
Quiet begins humming, letting me know she's ready.
I turn onto my stomach and slowly begin to crawl away. But I see a pair of boots, with blue smoke coming off of them.
Snake: "Shit."
The Skull grabs me and throws me into the wall of the canyon, but he stumbles when Quiet shoots him.
Her tranquilizer rounds have little effect on the super soldier, she yells out in frustration, I look at her, and toss a grenade into the air.
She fires and the grenade ricochets into the Skull's face, sending it stumbling back.
