Icarus

the boy stood on the roof of the highest tower

looking beyond cloud and sea and bower

leaving his nest, learning to soar

dreams and ambitions, freedom at the door.

the sun on his face wipes away every fear

caressing his thoughts, the path ahead all clear

the fire in his soul burns with a new song

the journey in his mind, he's going to meet the dawn.

her golden touch held close in his hand

the star in his eyes, wind and sky at his command

as he gazed on "what if i fall?" he sorrowed,

the sun waved, his heart leapt and then his feet followed.

he swam through the air in form and beauty

his fervid heart alight with a new sense of duty

stately as Apollo in his chariot, his only reckoning

was to get to get closer to the sun that kept on beckoning.

his body throbbed and ached in a holocaust of love

higher he climbed the heavens like a flaming dove

his senses grow numb, his wings go crippled

but for the dance in her voice his yearning tripled.

warning words from his father lost in his molten pulse

his melting sinews, all the pain it nulls

his spirit aglow in an incandescent glory

into the embracing arms of the sun, passion writes his story.

face to face with his love, his wax heart slowly melting

enveloped in her hair and her warmth, he's relenting

with a kiss on her lips he ignites into cinders

as the inferno drowns a heart still burns in her fingers.
