Katniss' POV

Gale is moving to District 4 today. He lives next door and I see the moving trucks in his driveway as I look out the window. His mother got remarried to a rich guy, and they bought a house in District 4. I put on a robe and walk outside. The cold breezy air hits my face as I open the door. Gale is packing the last of his things and walks towards me.
"Hey Catnip." He gives me a sad smile.
"Hey Gale, I'm gonna miss you." I say while trying to force a smile.
"I'm gonna miss you too, I promise I'll text you when I get there."
"Okay, stay safe. And don't worry about me, I'll be okay."
He brings me in for a long hug. His mom calls him and he lets go.
"Goodbye Catnip. I'll try to come and visit you sometime okay?"
"Okay. Goodbye Gale." I give him one last hug, and with that, he leaves.

NEXT DAY

I wake up to the sound of moving trucks. I look outside my window and see 2 moving trucks in Gale's old house. Wow that was quick. I put on my slippers and a robe. I drink a hot cup of milk, Prim is still asleep. She doesn't usually wake up this early. I walk outside to see who the new neighbors are. A man walks towards me, he's doesn't look that old.
"Hello, I'm Mr. Mellark, my family just moved in next door." He smiles
"Hi, I'm Katniss Everdeen. Nice to meet you." I smile.
He points to two boys, carrying boxes.
"Ah, those two boys are my sons, Leo and Rye. My other son must be inside." He says with a proud smile. I look over at the two boys. They're both laughing and carrying the boxes inside.
"And that woman over there is my..wife." his smile drops.
I look over at the woman. She doesn't look happy. She has her arms crossed and a scowl on her face. Mr. Mellark turns back to me and smiles again.
"Well it was nice meeting you Katniss, you'll probably meet my other son later."
"It was nice meeting you too." I smile.
He walks away and helps his sons with the boxes. I walk back inside. I have one hour and 25 minutes to get ready for school. I wake up Prim and tell her to get ready. I go back to my room and get ready myself. I wear a tight green t-shirt and some jeans. I put my hair in a braid and put on a jacket and grab my bag for school. I slip on my boots and head downstairs to grab some breakfast.
"Good morning little duck." I say as Prim walks in. She wears her hair in two braids.
"Good morning Katniss." She grabs a bowl and pours her favorite cereal into the bowl. We finish our breakfast and head outside. Prim rides the bus and I ride my bike to school. Before I knew it, I was parking my bike at the front of the school. I meet Madge at the doors.
"Hey Madge." I say as I walk up to her.
"Hi Katniss," She smiles, "ready for a new week of fun and games?" She asks sarcastically.
"Definitely." I reply sarcastically.
We walk inside and go to our locker and talk until the bell rings. I keep my bag with me at all times, except for when we go to lunch. We walk to our first class which is, math. As usual, I sit in the back, Madge sits in front of me. I start to doodle on my notebook and from the corner of my eye I see someone sit down next to me.
"Hi," I hear someone say. I look over to my right and see a boy with blonde hair, and bright blue eyes. He looks at me with a smile plastered on his face. I don't really talk to anyone except for Gale and Madge.
"My name's Peeta Mellark. I'm new here," He says.
Mellark. That sounds familiar. I think I met his dad this morning. I realized I've only been staring and haven't said a word.
"Um hi, I'm Katniss Everdeen. I think i met your dad this morning." I say. He looks surprised.
"Well my father did mention something about meeting a new neighbor. So that means we live next door. Great!" He smiles and turns back to the board. I resume doodling on my notebook. I glance over at him. He had big muscles and looked pretty tall. He catches me staring at him and I quickly look away. I feel my cheeks go pink and from the corner of my eye, I see him grinning at me. During the whole class, Peeta was the only one on my mind.
