The New Neighbor

Chapter 5

Katniss' POV

"Peeetaaaa" I groan. "The pizza box is burning my hands." I whine like a 5 year old. He laughs.
"I told you. Why didn't you grab the hot pads?" He asks.
"I don't know, I thought I didn't need them." I say and throw my head back onto the seat.
We arrive at Madge's house and climb out of the car.
"Here you hold it." I say and practically throw the pizza box to Peeta.
He wasn't paying attention and almost lets the pizza hit the ground. He gives me a glare and I stick my tongue out at him.
Peeta rings the doorbell.
"I'll get it!" We hear Madge yell from the inside.
She swings the door open and greets us. "Hey Katniss! Hi Peeta!" She says happily.
We both say hi and walk inside.
"Wow." Says Peeta as admires Madge's house. I've been in Madge's house a lot of times with Gale.
"I would give you a tour but I'm kinda lazy right now." She giggles.
She leads us into the home theater and we sit down on bean-bags in front of the giant screen.
"So what do you guys wanna watch?" She asks looking at the movies that we could watch.
"We could watch a horror movie." Peeta suggests.
I hate horror movies. The people in horror movies are sometimes so stupid and it gets on my nerves.
"Okay! I mean only if Katniss wants to." She looks at me and raises her eyebrows.
"Fine." Is all I say.
"What's wrong with horror movies? Are they too scary for you?" Peeta smirks.
"No, she just thinks they're cheesy or something." Madge answers for me.
"Not all horror movies are cheesy Katniss." Peeta chuckles.
"Well not cheesy but you know what I mean." I say.
"Okay let's watch the movie now!" Madge says quickly.
She puts the movie in and sits down next to me. Peeta is on my left and Madge is on my right.
Peeta sets the pizza in the middle and opens it. Madge hands us our own popcorn and drink. She turns up the volume and eats her pizza.

~Halfway through the movie~

Madge is eating her popcorn nervously and Peeta kind of tenses up. I start biting my nails and then there's a jump-scare. Madge screams and accidentally throws her popcorn everywhere. Peeta and I jumped at her scream and laughed when the popcorn went flying.
"Oops." Madge says and giggles.
The next jump-scare comes up and it wasn't that scary but both Peeta and Madge jumped. Now it was Peeta's turn for his popcorn to fly everywhere. Madge didn't notice but I did so I laughed quietly.
When the movie is over I let go of the thing that I was holding on to.
"I thought you were never gonna let go." Says Peeta.
I look at his arm and see a red mark. I didn't realize that I was holding on to Peeta.
"Oh! Sorry I didn't realize that I was holding on to you." I say and blush a little.
"It's okay." He grins.
We watch another movie and soon it's 9pm
"Wanna go to the hot tub?" Madge asks. Peeta and I both nod.
"Wait we didn't bring swimsuits." I say.
"It's okay I have some for male and female." Madge says with a smile.
She runs to a closet and brings out orange trunks for Peeta, and a light green bikini with white polka dots for me.
We all go change and then meet up at the hot tub outside. It's the middle of  February so it is chilly out here. We're all in the hot tub when I decide to tell Madge the good news that Gale told me.
"Hey Madge, I have good news." I smile at her.
"Ooh! What is it?" She asks.
"Gale texted me and said that he's coming to visit in two weeks." I say happily.
Madge's smile widens.
"Oh my god! Really?" She says. I give her a nod.
"How long is he staying?" She asks.
"He didn't tell me." I say.
Peeta interrupts.
"Who's Gale?" He asks.
"He's my best friend and Madge's too." I say.
Peeta just nods. We all just relax and sit in silence, enjoying the hot water surrounding our bodies.
It's about 10:40pm when Peeta and I leave.
"Hey Katniss?" Peeta says while driving back home to our neighborhood.
"Yeah?" I say looking at him
"Don't take this the wrong way or anything...but do you um, wanna have a sleepover?" Peeta says.
I'm kind of shocked at the moment and he notices my expression.
"I mean as friends you know?" He say quickly.
A laugh escapes my mouth.
"Um, sure. Just as friends." I say while grinning.
"Yeah, just friend stuff. What friends do I mean." He says. I notice a tint of pink on his cheeks.
I laugh at how nervous he sounds.
"Peeta, you don't have to be nervous, it's not like anything weird could happen." I giggle.
His cheeks grow pink at what I said.
He's so cute when he blushes.

"Let's do our sleepover at my house." I say.
"Okay. Let me go grab my stuff and I'll be over at your house in like 10 minutes." He says and runs inside his house.
I enter my house and check to see if Prim is asleep. I walk into her room and walk over to her bed. I give her forehead a kiss and she flutters her eyes open.
"Hey Katniss." She says half asleep.
"Hi little duck." I say.
"Did you have fun at your new friend's house?" I ask.
"Yeah, she was super nice and her name is Rue, by the way." She says while smiling.
"Glad you had fun, now go to sleep little duck. I love you." I give her another kiss on her temple and smile.
"Goodnight Katniss, I love you too." She says and immediately falls back asleep.
I hear the doorbell ring and walk downstairs. I open the door and Peeta stands there with his pajamas already on and he's carrying his blanket and pillow in one hand, and on the other he is carrying a bag of cookies.
"More cookies? I don't think that me and Prim finished the other batch that you gave us." I say with a laugh.
"Well here's another batch." He says while giving me a cheesy smile.
I laugh and take the cookies from his hand. I set them down on the table and walk back to the living room where Peeta is sitting on the couch.
"Oh by the way, Prim is asleep so we need to be quiet." I say sitting down next to him. We sit on the couch, channel surfing.
"I'm hungry." Peeta says while rubbing his tummy.
