Chapter 1

Your POV

As you cradle the head of your dying mother you can't help but cry. It's a natural human response to pain but there's no pain. Your whole body has gone numb from the thought of losing both of your parents. First your dad many years ago, and now your mom, your best and only friend. You can't survive without her. What are you going to do?

*A few days later*

You're walking back to the Nightwell manor after the funeral in Idris. You  were given two options by the consul. Remain in Idris and attend the Academy or go live in the New York Institute. You chose the latter, refusing to just sit in Idris when the world is being run by demons. You pack up a few of your necessary things and head to the Gard where a portal will take you to New York.

*In New York*

There are a few residents of the Institute waiting for you upon your arrival. You are introduced to the Lightwood family who you recall as having a young child pass away not to long ago. You are also introduced to the very famous Jace Herondale and his beautiful girlfriend Clary Morgenstern. You obviously know about the Great War as you recall you mom taking you far away from Idris so she could fight. But you clear your head of the awful memories and indroduce yourself to the residents of the Institute. Jace and Clary are the ones to escort you upstairs to your bedroom and help you put away your things," So," Jace asked holding a stack of pajama pants," I was thinking you could meet with me later in the training room later to assess your skill level. I don't want to be handling an uneducated hunter." You nod, about to protest that you are well trained like every other Shadowhunter but think better of it. Just then Clary's phone rings and she kisses Jace before saying her mom is waiting downstairs with Luke to go out to a movie. She waves good bye, and you do the same, finally done unpacking. Jace agrees to meet you in 15 minutes in the training room and leaves you to change, shooting you a wink.
