jimin's pov

she caught my eye amidst the ruckus an elementary class held. quiet, and aloof. she never talked much or ever talk with others unless she was spoken to.

her reserved nature drew me in, and a curious elementary boy I was, wanted to know more.

it wasn't easy getting close, and mina was truly a tough shell to open. it's as though she only ever reply to whatever you ask, and the conversation ends there, nothing more.

through abandoning my peer mates and going to her for partner activities, making sure she understood the lesson after every class, it slowly began to become a habit to look after her, even if she didn't take notice of it.

for an elementary boy, I didn't know what boundaries were, so I sometimes crossed the line, but whenever I see that she was uncomfortable, I knew when to stop.

I never really got close with her until halfway of our elementary years, where the closed hardshell she was finally softened, and I had finally gotten her to open up.

author's pov

"why are you so quiet?"

"don't you ever talk?"

"we're trying to invite you and you ignore us?

"you think you're so great huh?"

jimin steps in front of mina, taking off the headset he had on, acting as a shield to the insults a group of girls were throwing at her.

"stop pressuring her," he said defending, sympathizing with mina, knowing that she was merely an introvert living in an extroverted world. mina hid timidly behind, instinctively gripping the hem of his shirt.

when they started to throw more insults, he heaved a sigh, he would have to inform the office about their unruly behavior, but what mattered the most now was the girl who had to listen to their ranting

jimin put his headphones on her ears, placing it gently. she stared, bewildered, it muffled unwanted sounds. mina stared widely at him, surprised by his actions. he cups her cheeks, and mouths

"I'll protect you,"

grabbing her hand, he pulls her away.

as elementary kids..no one really understood the concept of love. crushes, sure, but love was too early to be comprehended. the throbbing in her heart never ceased to slow, and the feeling was foreign.

from the very moment park jimin took notice of her presence, she had been infatuated. the littlest things he did for her, being her partner when no one was, coming to her when school ends because he knew she would be too timid to ask the teacher,

mina knew entirely of what jimin was trying to do. only, she didn't know how to convey her feelings to him, so, silent she remained.

as he held her hand, leading her away from gloom, she looked at him in awe. embracing the warm feeling that was developing within, even if she can't fully grasp how love worked, she liked to think she knew,

myoui mina liked to think park jimin was her own definition for what love was.

middle school

since that day, mina hadn't been the same to jimin. opened up, like a caterpillar at its final stage of transforming, a butterfly with wings of pretty patterns. jimin was surprised hearing mina utter sentences, instead of sole phrases.

he noticed how soft her voice was, how angelic it sounded, and how easily it could lull you to sleep.

he felt accomplished, and he felt closer to her more than anyone else, which he cherished.
