.Chapter One: The Beginning of an Adventure.
-Brooke's pov-
'Brooke, honey, I want to be sure that you are ready for this,' I hear my stepmom say on the other side of the line.
'I am Valerie, you just got to trust me on this one. I feel like this is my shot to start again. To start living again,' I respond to her trough the phone. I call her by her first name because i just can't seem to get to call her mom. No matter how hard she may try to get me to say it, I can't. She just isn't my mom, but the new wife of my father. Not that she is one of those evil stepmothers that you see in almost every fairytale. No, she is a wonderful person, and i am glad that my father got his second chance at love, but she still isn't my mother. And she respects that, giving me all the time I need. But I don't think it will ever chance.
'Ok sweetheart, if you really think so, I will respect that. Your father and I wish you the best of luck! We're so sorry that we couldn't be there to wave you goodbye, but you know duty calls...' Valerie says, and I understand, they both have busy jobs, but I did have the tiniest bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, they could make it. 'Now, don't be sad. You're going on an adventure, love! Her British accent seeps through her excited voice. I too have a British accent, as I am born and raised in the United Kingdom.
'I'm not actually, I'm so excited!' I boom into my phone. Just when i want to say something more, a rather metallic voice calls through the room.
PLANE B372, FLYING TO ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO IS NOW BOARDING IN GATE 4
'I'm sorry Valerie, I have to go,' I speak and before I hang up, I hear a last 'Good luck' coming from my phone.
I put my phone away and pull my overly big suitcase behind me as I'm walking towards my gate. With my suitcase in my hand, I look around the airport. Lots of parents are seated in the waiting chairs while their children are running around, business men and women are sitting next to them with professional looking expressions and then there are the lonely travelers, who go on an adventure, like me.
I quickly arrive at my gate and I am one of the first to enter the plane after everything is checked and approved. My dad got me a first class ticket, saying that 'This was the start of something new, and that that deserves something special.' I didn't want to accept it at first, but he kept insisting, so here we are.
I plop down on my seat, thankful for the window beside me. I adore watching the earth beneath the plane and I love flying because when I do, I'm not dependent anymore on the earth and the people populating it, even if it is for a few hours. It's wonderful, feeling so free on a plane.
As i'm completely comfortable, after putting all my stuff away, i take my small bag and search for a particular paper inside it. When I have successfully located the paper, I take it out of my bag and place it on my lap. For the hundredth time since I received the letter, I read it again.
Dear Brooke Cooper,
With this letter we are happy to let you know that we successfully received your audition for a part in The Scorch Trials, the movie based upon the second book of the Maze Runner trilogy, written by James Dashner.
We were also so amazed by your acting skills that there was no doubt among us all.
You can proudly call yourself a part of the cast from now on!
Congratulations Brooke. We expect you in Albuquerque by no later than the first of August.
We'll be happy to see you join our team,
The Maze Runner production team
My hands are still shaking as hard as the first time I held this letter in my hands. I could have never dreamed of this moment to happen and yet, it's happening right now.
I will be shooting a movie, a big movie. This could be my big break.
For me to get comfortable on the plane, i take my iPod and headphone. It's going to be a long flight from London, United Kingdom to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I turn my iPod on and place the headphones on my head, no crying babies for an entire flight for me.
I press shuffle and the first song comes blasting through the headphone.
Some legends are told
Some turn to dust or to gold
But you will remember me
Remember me for centuriesCenturies by Fall Out Boy is the first song my ears receive and it couldn't have been a better one to start off this adventure with. People will remember me.
As the next song plays, my eyes are more frequently closing. The song is also much calmer than the previous one, so it helps to lull me to sleep.
And slowly but surely i fall asleep, ready for the next chapter in life.
