Chapter 2
It was only now that I realise that this man is not a man but in fact a teenage boy.
Now let me get this completely straight, I don’t have experience when it comes to their…kind? The closest teenage boy in this mansion would be Mrs Pots’ ten year old kid, Chip and he’s still a kid and even I don’t talk to him very much. As a result, I’m currently looking at the poor boy with shock and curiosity as if he is a part of a completely different, well species.
“Is she okay?” His question snapped me out of my slightly rude but completely understandable reaction. Instead of seeing just the teenage boy, I saw the whole room and then I was back again. With tight fists and my brows furrowed heavily with a deep frown etched on my face, I coldly tell him “Why are you still sitting on my chair?!” He sprung up from my chair almost immediately and I was glad that he was quick to follow orders.
“Sorr-“I did not let him finish before I jump to questioning him. “Why are you here?! Leave! Right now. I don’t like it when people come here and you’re not even invited!” M voice is flawlessly cold and uninviting, something that my father would be so proud of.
“Ms Annabelle, please hear him ou-“This time, I cut off Mrs Pots without hesitation. “No. I don’t care. Get him out of my mansion before I throw him out myself.” I give Cole, Luis and Mrs Pots a glare and an even deadlier one to the teenage boy. He looks worried and defeated but I didn’t care. I don’t care one bit. When the room is completely silent and all three elders were looking at me with utter disappointment, that’s when I picked the time to spin around towards the door to leave the room knowing that they know I’m completely serious.
I only took two steps forward when I was stopped abruptly by him.
“My name’s Adam.”
Suddenly, everything clicked. Mrs Pots, Luis and Cole never showed this much kindness to a stranger and if they did, they certainly didn’t do it in front of me. They were very persistent for me to hear this bo-Adam out as well. I remember now. Mrs Pots, Luis and Cole would often visit Fiona when I was a child. They must have known Adam very well and to see him so suddenly must have made them really ecstatic.
My body turned without the consent of my brain first and then my eyes lay on Adam. He was exactly like what Fiona described. Brown slightly wavy hair with little caramel highlights but it looks natural. From where I’m standing his eyes looks blue. That was the best description I could give without sounding like a stalker. Looking away, my gaze finally meets Luis’. “What is his business here?” I ask but still coldly. They know that this is the best behaviour I could display in a situation like this so they answered my question like how they normally would.
“Adam can tell you that himself. Are we to be excused?” Luis answers. “No. Stay here.” I tell Luis before fixing my gaze at Adam again. It wasn’t that I was afraid of Adam; it was that I don’t trust myself. The three could be here to hold me back if I ever want to slap him. “You can sit on that chair. I didn’t like it very much anyway.” I point at the closest chair beside my chair. Adam looks at Mrs Pots for some kind of confirmation and she gives him a small encouraging smile. He hesitantly walks over to the chair, sinking in it slowly just to make sure I was fine with it. After he is sat, I briskly walked over to my chair.
A moment of silence passed by with the both of us assessing each other before I finally spoke up. “Why are you here?” My voice was not as cold anymore but I didn’t offer him any smile or a window of opportunity to look soft. “Well um, I don’t know if you know this but I’m Fiona’s son…” He trails and I give him an annoyed look. “I asked what your business is here, not your life story.” Besides, I know who you are already.
He gives me a sheepish smile, something that I don’t see in my normal routine. “Sorry Annabe-“I stop him once again. “It’s Ms Annabelle.” He is not an exception. Maybe his mother is but he is not his mother. Speaking of…”Where is your mother? Why hasn’t she visited me?” When speaking about Fiona, my voice turns genuinely concern, something that Adam did not expect because he looks at me with surprise and if I’m correct, hopeful.
“That’s why I’m here An-Ms Annabelle. She’s sick…tuberculosis…” He pauses looking down. My eyes slightly widens in shock. Fiona has tuberculosis?I knew what tuberculosis is and it’s a serious infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs. I knew her coughing fits from her last day was not something to overlook! I didn’t dare question her ‘I’m fine, dear’ so I left it to concerned looks and nothing more.
“…so yeah.” He finishes. “Wait, what?” I snap back to reality looking at the flustered boy. I look around the room and everyone was giving Adam sympathetic looks. “So what do you say Ms Annabelle?” It was Cole who asked me that and he gives me a sharp look, something that my dad would always give me when he’s around. “Wait, what?” I ask again. Adam looks sad enough already and I don’t think he has the strength to say what he said again. I give Cole a clueless expression and he finally understands that I did not catch whatever Adam said.
“Adam.” Cole clears his throat. As mean and bratty as I am, I am not about to ask Adam to repeat himself…. I rather have Cole do it. I knew Cole wou- “She’ll do it.” Cole cut off my train of thought.
“Wait. What.”
Adam has a huge smile plastered on his face. He stands up, saying thank you over a million times but my mind is somewhere else. It’s somewhere where I’m killing Cole. For some odd reason, I’m glued to my seat, looking at Cole with my mightiest glare and he simply looks at me smugly. How dare him…
“Thank you so much Ms Annabelle! I’ll start tomorrow! I promise I’ll be as good as my mother in return or maybe even better.” He states, determination set on his face. Oh god, what did I agree into doing? Or rather, what did Cole force me into doing?
Before I could back out of ‘my’ offering, Cole rushes Adam out of the study, muttering that it was time for me to rest and that I wouldn’t be in a good mood without dinner. When the room was occupied by two less people I abruptly stand up and faced Mrs Pots and Luis who offered me both genuine kind smiles. “What you did there made him really happy. To be honest, I thought you were hopeless and you’ll live as an old bitter person but then you agre-“Luis rambled on and I was horrified at what he was saying. “What are you talking about?! I didn’t catch on to anything he said because I was thinking of how poorly Fiona must be! I didn’t catch anything after he said that bit! It was all Cole! What did I or rather what Cole made me do?!” I must have looked like a wild woman.
“Oh.” Was all he responded with? Mrs Pots quietly chuckled, advancing towards me and gently sitting me down on my chair again.
“Dear, you just agreed to him being your tutor.”
Author's Note
So its not as long as the first chapter but who cares, Adam is here! Yay! If you want to know which actors are playing the characters then I've decided that it would be Danielle Campbell who will be playing Annabelle and then Daniel Sharman as Adam Huttmane. (P.S I do watch teen wolf and I have such a huge crush on Daniel vote or comment if you do too)
