Escape // Chapter 3

The hours after Min Jun left appeared to be stretched out, with each minute feeling like an entire hour. As soon as Min Jun left through the door, Mai raced upstairs to confront her father but he had already locked himself in his office. No matter how loud Mai screamed or how hard she pounded on the door, her father gave her no response. 

Her knees began to buckle under the weight of everything that happened that day. Her body felt weak, almost unnaturally so. Yet at the same time, her heart was throbbing in a surge of panic. Realising that any attempt to reason with her father would fall on deaf ears, she retreated to her room. She collapsed on her bed without even having the strength to cry the pain away. 

Y/N (MAI) POV

I opened my eyes to see my white ceiling staring back at me. The entire evening felt like a blur. For how long was I aleep? 

‘’To hell with it’’ I thought to myself. What’s the point? My life will be as good as over in a few days and there was nothing I could do about it. Running away was not an option, dad is the only one with the keys to every door in this house. Ditching Min Jun at the wedding? Maybe but that might cause even more trouble. Not for me but for my family. Still… why me? I have never met Min Jun before in my life yet he speaks to me as if I have known him for years. 

‘’I want you Mai’’

Something deep inside me is telling me that he does WANT ME. Rather, he wants me FOR something. My dog Buddy must have noticed how upset I was. He jumped up on my bed and cuddled next to me. 

As I am lying in my bed, my thoughts are racing inside my head, I felt a cold hand press against my mouth. I froze in fear. 

‘’Shhh! Don’t ask any questions! Just do what I say!’’ I let out a sigh of relief. I knew that voice. 

‘’Chanyeol!!! You scared the life out of me! What are you doing in my room?!’’

‘’Shhh!!!! Keep quiet Mai! Just listen to me! Now, get dressed quickly into something comfortable, grab anything that means something to you and meet me at out horse stall.’’

To say that i wasn't utterly confused by what was happening would be a lie. Oh well, nothing in this town surprises me anymore. Buddy kept barking, that didnt help the situation at all so i tried to call him down. As I got dressed into a random hoodie I found and I was collecting my things I began to realise what Chanyeol was doing…

As I expected, Chanyeol somehow got dad’s keys so that I could get out. How on earth did he manage that? I take Buddy into my arms as I am trying to move as quietly as possible throughout the house. Every small noise would send chills down my spine. I looked at the clock. It was past midnight.  My eyes darted up and down, looking at the kitching, the living room, the windows, the paintings on the walls...I knew that I was not going to see this house for a long while. 

As I arrived at the horse stall, rain started pouring down and the wind was violent. Chanyeol already stood there at the stall with one of our horses, a white horse named Lotus. Seeing Lotus brought back some good memories. Dad would never allow me to ride on our horses but every time he would be out for work, Chanyeol would sneak me into the stall and teach me how to ride Lotus. 

Chanyeol told me to get on Lotus and I did so. 

‘’Here’s a bag with some essentials. Make sure you don’t lose ANYTHING that's in here.’’  As Chanyeol said this, we officially left our house and we were walking down a road that I had never seen before. 

‘’I’m sure Mai that you know what I am doing right now right? It’s time for your to escape this town.’’  I nodded in agreement. 

‘’Where are you taking me?’’ I asked. 

‘’The Northern Woodlands.’’ Chanyeol saw the shocked look on my face. 

‘’It’s your only way out Mai. You’re going to have to trust me at this point.’’ 

After a few minutes we arrived at the edge of the forest. 

‘’From here on out, you have to go alone Mai.’’

‘’WHAT?! NO! You are not leaving me here!!’’ I cried out. 

‘’I can’t Mai. As soon as dad wakes up the entire town will be turned upside down in the search for you. And I still have to make sure that they won’t find you.’’ 

As tears began to roll down my cheeks, Chanyeol reached out and held my hand. We’ll meet again little sis!’’ He smiled, but I could see the sadness in his eyes. Then, he took a small gold key out of his pocket that was attached to a necklace. 

‘’Listen up Mai. You have to head into the forest. It might take a while but eventually you will find a portal there. It’s pretty old looking, covered in moss and dirt. I know it sounds insane, but you must use this key and open it. As long as you are still in this world, Min Jun will come after you.’’

‘’You know more about this Min Jun guy don’t you? What does he want with me? Who is he?’’

‘’I can’t tell you right now. All you have to know is that he is no good and you need to get out of here.’’ 

We shared a hug. We looked each other in the eyes, and then Lotus, Buddy and I entered into the dark forest.
