Wendy's POV
I woke up to Gryphon struggling. His forehead was drenched in sweat and his breathing was labored. He yelled occasionally
"Gryphon! Wake up! It's just a nightmare!" I said as I pushed him multiple times.
He sat up violently and gasped. His hands frantically searched his chest. He sighed in relief and looked at me.
"What's wrong, Gryphon?"
He swallowed and inhaled.
"Blaise...Chained up..Scorpion."
Whatever he saw obviously had shaken him up. He ran a hand through his drenched hair. I placed a hand on his free one. I made sure to speak as gently as possible.
"It's okay, Gryphon. Whatever you saw isn't real. Go back to sleep."
He nodded and passed out. All the stress must finally be getting to him and our "Team Mates" aren't helping with the constant antagonizing. I had to do something. I climbed out of bed and went downstairs. Isaac and Usuri were sitting down and watching t.v. I stood infront of them, making an effort to block the t.v.
"Could you move? I'm trying to watch this," Isaac asked as he tred to look around me.
"I need you to stop messing with Gryphon. He already has enough on his plate."
"Look Isaac, she's concerned. She's worried about her little boyfriend."
"I'm serious, Usuri. The stress is tearing him apart." My claws extended in anger.
"I heard him screaming. Tell him to put some bass in his voice. He sounds a bit womanly," laughed Isaac as he bumped fists with Usuri "Listen sweet cheeks. We don't take orders from you. We're only doing what Gryphon says because he can kill us. If I'm forced to do what he says, I'm going to make his life hell. Understand?"
I jumped at Isaac and wrapped my hands around his neck. He tried to pry me off of him but he's only part bat. I have the strength of a tiger. It was like a toddler trying to fight a martial artist.
"Listen to me and listen well. I'm stronger than you. I could probably beat Usuri too. You leave Gryphon alone or you'll have to deal with both of us. Understand?"
He nodded as well as he could and I let go. Usuri whistled.
"So the kitty actually has claws after all."
"Shut it."
I walked into the kitchen and looked for something to eat. I stared at my hand and waited for my claws to shrink and go away. I wasn't like Gryphon or Usuri and haven't embraced my new..abilities. Gryphon sees them as a means to an end while I see them as an abomination. Something that shouldn't exist and was forced onto me. Whenever I used my abilities, I felt disgusted. I brushed the feeling away and made some toast. Gryphon walked in and grabbed a banana.
"Morning, Wendy. Thanks for uh..helping out earlier. I appreciate it." He gave me a weak smile.
"No problem. Anything to help."
He finished his banana and called for Isaac. Isaac walked in while rubbing his neck.
"What? I was watching t.v."
"Flight training time. Now."
"But I was watching t-" I cut him off by shooting a glare at him "Sure. Let's train."
Gryphon took off his shirt and extended his white wings. A gust of wind blew my hair back. Isaac's wings erupted from his shirt as they walked outside and rose to the air. I could barely hear them, they were so high up. They started off by circling around the house. Gryphon wobbled and bobbed while Isaac stayed straight. I could tell Gryphon was mad. After a few hours, they landed.
"We'll work on this more tomorrow. Rest up." Isaac walked inside the house.
"My wings are killing me..," Gryphon said as he collapsed on the ground.
"Do you want some ice?" I asked as I leaned over him.
"Uh huh."
I went to the kitchen and filled a sandwich bag with ice cubes. When I gave it to Gryphon, he nearly snatched it and placed it on a wing. He shuddered at first rom the cold but then relaxed as he got used to the cold.
"Thank you. Flying's hard work.."
"You seem dead set on learning how to do this. Everything all right?" I sat next to him.
"I need to do this so I can stop Biogen. I need to fight them for like...I dunno..Catharsis. Biogen really screwed us over. If I don't do this, I don't think I can take it," he sighed a huge sigh.
So that's what he's been bottling up. Explains the recent attitude. I put a hand on his shoulder.
"Well you don't have to worry. I'll help you stop them. Like you said. They screwed us over."
He jumped up and threw his arms around me in a massive hug. I was taken aback at first but then returned the hug. It was kind of awkward with the wings but I found a way.
"Thank you. Thank you for staying with me through all of this craziness," he said, his voice just above a whisper.
"Chimeras have to stick together. Through thick and thin."
He stood up and walked inside. I followed suit. Gryphon raided the fridge and grabbed multiple items. So many that he had to stack them in his arms.
"I'm really hungry. I don't know why."
"Ask Usuri. She seems to be the scientist of the group."
"Oh joy!" He said with half a sandwich sticking out of his mouth.
He walked into the living room.
"Hey Cubby. Why am I so hungry all of the sudden?"
"Probably a side effect of the adaptivity of your DNA. I suspect your metabolic rate has increased so your body could create things like wings and gills without any adverse side effects. Now move, I'm watching a movie." She shoveled a handful of popcorn into her mouth.
Gryphon took her bowl and retreated upstairs. I sat down.
"So when do you expect to start your training? I guess you don't know how to fight. I do."
"Oh. I guess tomorrow? Why do you care?"
"You've gained my respect, kitten. You should've seen how much you've shaken up Isaac. So now, I'm going to help you out."
"Thanks, I guess. I gonna hit the hay. Night."
