Usuri's POV

As Isaac and Gryphon flew off, Wendy and I got ready to go to the store. The boys left us some money to buy supplies, but it wasn't enough to buy everything. It was for us to by stuff and not look suspicious when stealing stuff. We wore baggy clothes with multiple pockets.

"Are you ready yet, Wendy? Let's go."

"I'm on my way," she said from upstairs.

When we came downstairs, we walked out the door and sprinted to the store Gryphon told us about. We walked through the door, grabbed a cart, and began filling it up. We would grab toiletries and stuff them in our pockets as we stocked up on food.

"Do we have enough meat?" Wendy asked, eyeing the cart.

"Yes, I've made sure."

I grabbed a bottle of honey and put it in the cart. I saw Wendy grab socks and underwear. She balled them up and shoved them into her pockets. We proceeded to the check out and began to pay for the stuff we weren't stealing. The woman at the checkout bagged our stuff and asked for payment. I passed her the money and grabbed our stuff. She stared at Wendy and excused herself. We grabbed our bags and went to leave when a black van pulled up. Men armed with guns climbed out and approached the building.

"Biogen soldiers! Wendy we need to go!"

We ran to the back of the store, aiming to go out the back way when we saw even more soldiers. We hid in an aisle as the soldiers burst through the door.

"We are inside the store. The two are hiding somewhere in here. We'll find them."

I could hear footsteps coming closer to our hiding place. Wendy and I crawled into a different aisle as quitetly as possible. We stumbled into one of them. He raised his gun and began to yell when Wendy jumped up and grabbed him. He struggled to get free when Wendy punched him in the side of the head. His eyes rolled up into his head as he passed out.

"How did you know how to do that?" I asked.

"I don't know. Instinct?" Wendy's eyes darted around and her ears twitched madly.

"There are people coming in from the right, Usuri. Do we have any change or small objects?" she asked.

I placed a quarter in her hand, very confused. Wendy turned and focused.

Wendy's POV

I gripped the quarter in my hand and focused on the aisle across from us. A precariously stacked tower of shampoo bottles wobbled. A grin broke on my face.(Thank you Deus ex machina!) I tossed the quarter as hard as possible. The tower was decimated, shampoo bottles flying every where. The soldiers stopped and ran towards the nose. Usuri and I slinked away to the aisle in front of the soldiers. I got up and tried to push down the shelving.

"Usuri, I need your help."

Usuri helped me and the shelving fell on the soldiers, trapping them. They yelled into their earpieces. The doors opened up and soldiers ran to their team. We ran through the door and sprinted back home. We didn't stop until we got inside, the door locked behind us. Usuri grabbed her bottle of honey and drank happily. I sat on the couch, breathless and happy.

"We got away, Usuri. And we did it with food too."

Usuri nodded, mouth full of honey. She held out a fist. I tapped it with mine. Gryphon and Isaac walked in, guns in hand. They placed one in my hands and one in Usuri's. Gryphon sat next to me and rubbed his chest.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" I asked him.

"I'm fine. Just some phantom pains."

 Phantom pains?

"Gryph got shot," Isaac said "He healed and stopped our enemies."

 My eyes widened.

"I think I adapted again. I could see everything in slo-mo."

 Usuri joined the conversation.

"Some animals can process information a lot faster than humans. I guess your brain changed momentarily. Your body realized how much faster bullets are than you and mutated so you could stand a chance," she said, taking a break from her honey.

"Cool, I guess? Anyway, how did your shopping trip go?" Gryphon asked me.

"We got the food, but someone recognized me and ratted us out. We distracted the men who showed up and ran home," I told him.

"Were you hurt?" He asked, a look of concern in his eyes.

"No, I'm fine. No need to worry."

He smiled at me.Today was a really crazy day.
