It was a message.

From Dream.

I quickly clicked on it, ignoring the other messages I'd received from my boyfriend which he'd sent on his way home, and read what he sent me.

Dreamy: Just finished editing the video we recorded! Came out super good, it's honestly my favorite. My friends want to play tomorrow at 3pm CT if that's okay

I caught myself smiling for no reason before responding back to him.

Me: i'm so ready for tomorrow, yeah i can do 3pm

Me: also can't wait to watch the video once you upload it!

After that I put my phone to charge but not before one last message from Dream popped up.

Dreamy: Can't wait, goodnight y/n <3

A HEART??? This boy was going to be the death of me. But again, for some odd reason, I found myself smiling like an idiot while staring at my phone.

Me: goodnight Dream <3

I mean.... what else was I supposed to do? He was just being friendly. It wouldn't hurt to be friendly back, right? I laid my phone on my nightstand and went to lay down on my bed where Marie was sleeping.

"Hey pretty girl, hope you don't mind me sleeping next to you," I scooted next to her and as soon as my head hit the pillow, I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up at 5 a.m. the next morning and noticed Jake was asleep in bed next to me. I got up to wash my face, brush my teeth, and take a nice, hot shower. After stepping out of the shower, I noticed my elbows and shoulders had bruises. Just great, not again. I went inside my walk-in closet to look for something comfortable but that would also cover the bruises. I chose some cute, white pajama shorts with different cats on them and a grey zip up jacket that fit me like a crop top because I'd had it for a couple years already. What can I say? It was a nice jacket.

Upon arriving back at the bedroom, I noticed Jake wasn't in bed anymore. I knew he was showering because I could make out the faint pitter-patter of water hitting the tile floor from the bathroom. Instead of bothering him, I left to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the both of us. My eyes went to the clock on the wall.

6:28 a.m.

Only about thirty minutes until Jake had to go to work. I prepared some blueberry pancakes for Jake since those were his favorite and some chocolate chip pancakes for me. It didn't take long and after settling all the pancakes on our plates, I checked the time again.

6:46 a.m.

I set the plates with our breakfast on the kitchen island, this is where we'd usually eat, and sat on the stool. I was halfway done with one of my pancakes when Jake walked into the kitchen wearing his white button up, gray slacks, and signature black dress shoes. "Good morning, baby," he greeted me. "This smells yummy." He devoured his food within minutes of him sitting down. Then, after grabbing his coat and keys, Jake kissed my forehead and made his way out the door but paused before telling me, "I'll be home late. You don't need to make dinner for me today. Love you." And he was gone.

Finally.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I felt like I could finally breathe, like I wasn't walking on eggshells anymore. I always had to be careful what I said and did when I was around him, and I hated it.

After I finished eating, I washed both the plates and the rest of the dishes and left them in the clean part of the sink to dry. I did the laundry, made the bed, and fed Marie which took up another hour of my time. Daily chores were done. Now what?
