Fire, Air, Water, Earth...
261 years after the air nation genocide.
In the middle of the vast Si-Wong desert, two men arrived at a small collection of tents and parked sand-sailers.
They look out of place, wearing dark indigo clothing with white accents. As they walk through the village a man in the traditional clothing of a sand bender chief walks up to them.
"It's been fourteen years and you still haven't given up looking for the avatar. You've been annoying almost every tribe in the desert for 14 years now and yet you still think he's here. When will the white lotus just give up" said the chief.
The older of the two men responded, "We've been using directional geomancy to find the avatar for generations, the bones have never failed us before, and if they say the avatar is in this desert, then he's in this desert."
The chief shook his head, "You can toss bones around and call it earthbending all you want that doesn't change the fact that it's not finding the avatar. Maybe you should try a method of searching that actually works."
The older man started to say something but was cut off by the younger one, "The nomadic lifestyle of your people makes the normal earthbending method of finding the avatar very difficult, but the earthbending masters, such as my friend here, Master Sho, have been mapping the locations the trigrams point to and we've figured out the avatar is a member of your tribe."
"Master Tulok and I would like to meet with the younger people of your tribe, specifically any fourteen-year-olds." said master Sho.
"Ha," the chief laughed, "the only fourteen year old here is Yan, and the kid's basically the opposite of the avatar, sure he's got some talent, but he refuses to practice, refuses to interact with others and only cares about books. He's not the kid you're looking for."
"Our method has never failed before," said master Sho, "Show us where this child is and we'll be the ones to figure out if he's the avatar or not."
"He's in that tent over there, but I promise he's not the one you're looking for."
Sho and Tulok walked inside the tent, inside was a teenage boy reading a book. He looked over at them as they entered the tent.
"Hello," said Tulok, "My name is master Tulok, and this is master Sho, we're from the order of the white lotus. have you heard of us?"
"Yeh, I know who you are," Yan said, "You find the avatar after the last one dies, honestly I think it's a stupid job to have, the identity for the avatar should just stay a secret, they do more bad than good."
"What!" exclaimed Sho, "The avatar is a beacon of light and peace for the world, what bad has any avatar ever done?"
"Avatar Kyoshi founded the Dai-Li, creating one of the most oppressive regimes in history. Avatar Roku failed to stop the air nation genocide or the 100-year war. Avatar Aang ran away and hid in a block of ice while the world needed him. Avatar Korra failed to stop the assassination of the Earth Queen or the anarchy following it," Yan paused, "Do you want me to continue?"
Sho was absolutely enraged, how could a little brat like this try to dishonor the entire legacy of 10,000 years of avatars.
"We have reason to believe that you are the next avatar," said Tulok, "Regardless of how you feel about it, the avatar is important to keep balance in the world."
"Oh yeh I'm definitely the avatar, I figured out how to do some basic airbending a few years ago," Yan said as he used airbending to close the book and toss it at Tulok. Tulok caught it.
"But I think the world would be better off without me"
Sho looked at Yan, "You are coming with us to Republic City whether you want to or not, you are the avatar and you will learn to master the elements"
Yan, looked at the two white lotus members, "Do you guys have a library there?"
"Yes, one of the largest collections of knowledge in the world," said Tulok.
"All right, I'll go," said Yan, "I've read basically every book the tribe has, its beginning to get boring.
As the three of them left the desert on an airship Sho spoke to Tulok. "Remind me to teach that kid some manners before starting on earthbending."

So that was the prologue, sorry for the bad writing. I'll start on chapter one soon and it will probably be out by the end of the week.
