Éponine walked the alleyways, the wind blowing in her face. She was gonna report to Marius what she had just found out. He'll appreciate it. Éponine thought as she ran her hands through her blonde curly hair.

The air was bitter cold, even though Éponine was use to the cold and wind's bite, she longed for a warm jacket to wear instead of her flimsy jacket. Éponine shoved her hands into the pockets, she found the hole in her left pocket and wiggled her fingers about.

The hole in her jacket provided a strange sense of security for her. It calmed Éponine.
Éponine exited the alleyway and heard the clamor from twenty feet away from the ABC Café from the men of Amis. Éponine felt a small smile grew at her lips. Such dreamers, such fighters.

Such stupid naive schoolboys!

Éponine shook her head as she scurried to the café.

Éponine froze when she heard the café's clatter go silent. Slowly she moved to the door, with a shaking hand she opened it. The café's warm air warmed her cold body to the bone.

"Lamarque, the people's man. His death is the sign we await!" A bold voice said. She could hear him mounting something, a chair or table possibly, by the scraping on the floor.

Éponine peeked around the corner when she saw the man standing on his chair. His blonde curls sticking tightly to his head.

"On his funeral day they will honor his name." The man was saying. Éponine could only see his backside, but judging by his hands he had tan skin. Like the color of cinnamon on white paper. "It's a railing cry that will reach every ear! In the death of Lamarque we will kindle the flame."

Éponine's heart ached. No. She knew what this meant, the barricade would rise and a battle (or battles) would break out. Éponine clamped down on her lip. The men didn't seem to see the danger of the barricade though. They didn't see that they could actually die.

"They will see that the day of salvation is near! The time is near!" The man jumped off the chair, onto the ground. "Let us welcome it gladly with courage and cheer! Let us take to the streets with no doubt in our hearts! But a jubliant shout, they will come one and all. They, they will come when we call." A burst of excited chattered buzzed through the room. Till the drunk Grantaire, jumped onto the table.

"I feel the need to sing!" He slurred. Éponine moved to find Marius as she heard the excited man- wasn't his name Enjolras?- laugh.

"Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men? It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again!" Enjorlas sang in a deep husky voice, going around the table, speaking literally to people as he passed them.

Éponine stood on her tiptoes to look for Marius.

"I'm cursed with shortness." Éponine murmured.

"When the beating of your heart, echoes the beating of the drum, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!" Another man, Combeferre, jumped onto the table next to Grantaire.

"Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me? Beyond the barricade is there a world you want to see?" As Combeferre spoke, he pointed at various people he spoke to. Éponine marvled the men. She could see why anyone would want to join them! The passion the men had for the fight for freedom! It not only made you wanna fight with them but die side by side with them.

"Then join in the fight that will give you the right ot be free!" A voice boomed, Éponine looked and saw a man standing on a table holding up a beer mug.

"Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men?" The whole room began to sing. Éponine laughed and joined, the best she could, with the men.
