"Rin, calm down," Sylvia said as she slowly approached her twin. She and Rosemary had taken on a VERY difficult and potentially dangerous job, while everyone else was just sitting down. Sylvia put a hand on Rin's arm to make him stop jumping. "Calm down," she said again.
"I'm just so excited!!!" Rin exclaimed. "Master Laxus is going to announce who's going to the Grand Magic Games this year!" he said, jumping higher that ever. Sylvia sighed. Mission: failure.
"Aren't you excited, Sylv, Rosemary?" he asked happily. "What if he picks one of us this year."
"Heh, like that's going to happen," Nova said as she wiped the counter. "Good ol' Dad picks the same people every year. Can't blame him though, they are very strong and reliable and have kept us on top."
"She's got a point," Rosemary said. Rin groaned.
"Why must you crush my dreams like this?"
"We're not trying to crush your dreams," Rosemary replied. "We're just being logical."
"I know but still," Rin whined.
"It sucks, doesn't it?" Nash said. He had been writing next to Nova. "I mean, he hasn't sent Gale yet and he's an adult." Gale groaned and put his book down.
"How many times do I have to tell you, just because I'm nineteen doesn't mean I'm suddenly all "adulty" and mature," he said.
"You're super mature and adulty," Nash said with a grin on his face. Gale hit him with his book.
"Just 'cause I'm nineteen doesn't mean I'm a completely different person. I'm still your guys' friend and have the same personality."
"You're an adult though."
Nash was hit on the head again.
"Pleeeaaase," came a voice from across the table. "Please can you read this page, Luna. I want to know if I wrote it well, and I need an outside opinion."
"Emma, could you get your brother's opinion or something? I'm tired," Luna replied as she rested her head on the table, pink hair falling over her eyes. Emma shoved the lacrima to her.
"Gale's reading, and do you see his face? He obviously just read a bad part. Do you think I would be such a monster as to ask him to do something I know he can't resist right after reading that? Do you think I would be that cruel?"
"What about Nova then?"
"I'd love to after serving these drinks, because unlike you I have a part time job," Nova commented. "Can't you just help your best friend for a few minutes?" she asked Luna.
"Fiiinnneee...."
"Could you please be quiet? I'm trying to focus on beating Reiki," a boy said from the floor. He was cross-legged with a pile of cards in his hand.
"Focus shmocus, it's just a game, Storm," Reiki said in an upbeat tone. Storm didn't reply, and instead played a card. Rosemary walked over and sat down next to them.
"Hey, can I play next round?" she asked.
"Sure, but you won't have to wait long because," Reiki said, playing down a card and winning the game.
"How?? Seriously, how? Every single time I plan and strategize and you just play whatever, and you always win," Storm said exasperatedly.
"What can I say? I'm a master."
"He kind of is," Rosemary butted in. "Do you have any idea how many times we've played? He's won almost all of them."
"I think you mean all of them."
"No, I mean almost all of them."
"When did you win?"
The siblings continued bickering as Storm shuffled the cards to play again. Suddenly, the guild went quiet. The kids turned to see Laxus walking to the front.
"Why is everybody quiet, Gale-san? I can't see," a little girl asked. She had short, soft, dark blue hair and was Romeo and Wendy's child, Melody. Everyone called her Mini though.
"Master is about to announce who's going to the Grand Magic Games," Gale whispered back.
"Oh," she replied as she hopped up onto Gale's lap. She started talking about how she was reading a really good book by "Miss Lucy" and Gale in turn told her about the book he was reading.
Laxus started speaking at the front of the room, and while the adults were listening with rapt attention, the kids weren't paying attention at all. Nash was still writing, Gale was talking with Mini, Nova was getting a drink, and everyone else was playing a card game.
"So, you're all here today to decide who will be going to the Grand Magic Games this year. Now, most of you are assuming we'll send some of S-Class wizards, but this year we decided that we need to show the world why we're still on top, and that we have more than just a few good wizards. We need some new blood. That's why, this year, we're sending the next generation, our children."
The only sound was the shatter of Nova's cup on the ground.
