Xiaotang was becoming more and more stressed. It was December, the last month of the year, and there was a lot to do to at the company. There were end-of-the-year reports to be read, promotions and demotions to be made, and meetings to attend. Xiaotang hasn't been home for a few days and she probably won't be going home for a while.
Shuxin wouldn't consider herself a needy girlfriend, but she hasn't seen Xiaotang for days and it's slowly eating her up inside. She was also quite worried about the CEO's health. Xiaotang was a hard-headed workaholic who forgets about eating three meals a day and sleeping when she's very busy.
"I'm worried about her," Shuxin told Anqi one day. "She doesn't sleep and she doesn't come home. I phoned Xiaowei and she said Xiaotang hasn't touched food in two days!"
"She can go that long without food?" Anqi asked incredulous. "I might die if I go that long without food!"
"I think I should just barge in and pull her back home, but she's going to get mad!"
"Yeah, she might. She's quite serious when it comes to her work, right?"
"Yeah... I think I should cook her a healthy lunch and deliver it personally."
And so she did. Shuxin labored long hours in the kitchen. She cooked and chopped and cooked some more. She put all her blood, sweat, and tears into the food. (She accidentally cut herself numerous times, sweated gallons, and cried rivers when the food didn't turn out the way she wanted it to.) Finally, Shuxin finished cooking the best meal she's ever cooked in her life: pork stew.
"Kong Xueer! The pork stew is so good, I can't stop tasting it!" Shuxin exclaimed into the phone as she licked the spoon.
(She also ate half the pot of stew, but she swears it was an "accident.")
Shuxin packed the warm stew into a little lunchbox with a large picture of Strawberry Shortcake on its lid. (If Shuxin went to elementary school, she would be the envy of all the other kids because of that lunchbox.) Prancing happily, she drove herself to Xiaotang's company, ready to surprise her girlfriend.
On the other hand, Xiaotang was running on caffeine cubes and half-assed PB and J sandwiches. She misses home and her girlfriend but she needed to finish what she had to finish. Besides, she only had thirteen more reports to read and four more meetings to sit through. After that, she'll finally be able to go back home and hug her cute little Yu egg. She spitefully chewed the half-assed PB and J sandwich.
Knock, knock!
"Come in!" she called.
The person in question poked her head into the room. She then scurried inside like a little mouse. Xiaotang looked up with tired, bloodshot eyes, only to see her happy pill Shuxin.
"I must be so tired!" Xiaotang laughed to herself. "I'm starting to see my girlfriend!"
"But, Xiaotang," Shuxin pouted. "It is me!"
"It's you?" Xiaotang leaned forward. "For real?! I'm so happy!"
The CEO pulled Shuxin into a tight hug. Shuxin could tell how much she had missed her. Xiaotang didn't let go of her at all. She just stood there, eyes closed and inhaling Shuxin's calming scent.
"Baobei, I made you some lunch," Shuxin whispered into Xiaotang's ear. "Eat a little bit and then continue working okay?"
Xiaotang pulled away from the hug and trudged to the couch. Shuxin took out her little lunchbox and prepared it for Xiaotang to eat. The CEO eyed the picture of Strawberry Shortcake on the lid and chuckled to herself.
"Strawberry Shortcake, huh?" Xiaotang smirked.
"Hey! I couldn't find another lunchbox, okay?" Shuxin handed her the spoon. "Now, eat up."
