It was a few days out since they left Denver, infected and wildlife alike had been nutritious with keeping their trip miserable. Countless run ins had left them with very little ammo. It also didn't help that their food supply was also low, raccoons stole most of their food in the middle of the night. It had caused their spirits for the trip to be at a steady decline.
Oz slowed down a bit for some place between him and the group as they traveled down a trail near the road. He and Flinders hadn't talked since the first night out of the city, which, in theory, would be difficult since they are riding on the same horse. In practice, neither of them were really talking to each other. Oz usually liked the quietness, even if the two of them were the only ones not talking, it was nice to just take in the scenery. Although, now his friend's quietness started to bother him a lot.
"You okay?" He asked once out of ear shot of the rest, although they were all having their own conversations. Overhearing wouldn't be an issue, but he wanted to be on the safe side. "Not the best I guess." Flinders rested his head on Oz's back, he was tired, confused, and generally felt like shit. "Wanna talk?" Oz asked, unsure of what the answer will be. Although, he wasn't able to get an answer before he heard Blair yell.
"Holy shit, we found a town." She exclaimed, it was their first town since they left Denver. There was in fact a descent sized town, houses just peeking through the trees. Oz sighed, he guessed he'd pick up his conversation with Finders if they spread out.
The town itself was eerily empty, there was no sound other than the echoing clop of horse hooves. The buildings looked right out of a black and white tv show, although these were starting to get taken over by the elements. It felt like a ghost town, there were no sounds of life besides the sound of prey animals running for shelter.
They stopped in the heart of the town. There were four different ways of going, forward, backward, left, or right. "Check for supplies, take as many as you can. Topic, Click, take north, Wonder, Salty, go south, Oz, Flinders take east, Mini and I have west. Be careful, we don't know if we're alone. We will all meet back here when we're done." Blair ordered instantly, she was thinking about the plan when they were in the town.
They all split up, which was horrible in theory, but it's Blair's orders. Oz turned his horse around to go in the direction they came. "Where do you want to go first?" He asked getting off the horse to tie it up to a pole.
Flinders hopped off the horse. "Start on this side, go all the way down, go back clearing out the houses on the other side?" He tilted his head up to look at Oz, a six inch difference of height forced him to.
"Sure." Oz looked at the lot of houses that were there, there were around three houses combined from each side, they also had a saloon, bank, and sheriff department on their street. He went over to the first building, it was the was the bank, although there was most likely going to be nothing of use he wanted tp check it out anyways.
Oz pressed himself up against the door of the bank, it wasn't going to budge. "Last resort." He picked up a loose brick from the road and flung it at a window, shattering it.
Flinders jumped back exclaiming, "give a man a warning next time." Oz rolled his eyes, before clearing the glass off the window and hopping inside. He unlocked and opened it from the inside, asking "it worked didn't it?"
"I give you credit for that."
The bank wasn't much to look at, it was a bank, what else was there to expect. It was extremely dusty with a desk, waiting area, and a bunch of locked drawers, although most of them were open.
"You haven't talked all that much for a few days now." Oz restarted their conversation as he tried to unlock a drawer in the desk. "Is everything okay?" He asked before finally hearing a click. A large set of keys were in it, jackpot.
