.        "Wow," Rose breathed, staring out into the night sky. "I'm watching fireowrks from a space ship!" She giggled, looking to the Doctor. He smiled back and held her tighter.

"Yes you are." He'd thought she'd want to spen New Years with her mom, but she chose to stay with him, it was okay because Jackie was spending it with her friends. He smiled again, watching blue fireworks appear in the sky. And they got closer, and closer, and stopped . . . "Rose," the dark haired man whispered, "go back in the TARDIS."

        "Why?" She asked, standing up.

"Those aren't fireworks." He pulled her back, "They're space ships," he paused, "war ships."

"What? War ships, why? It's New Years eve for god's sake." She said moving to look at the screen.

"Fireworks," the Doctor said quietly. "They think they're war signals. You humans, always calling aliens to your planet." He turned to see Rose staring at the floor. "What's wrong?" He asked, moving closer.

"My mum's down there." She whispered, almost to herself. How could she have left her down there? This always happens on holidays, she should've known.

"We'll stop this." The Doctor said, flicking some switches and banging on the TARDIS's screen. "Hello!" He shouted. "Hello, ah yes! Hi there, might I ask why you've come to this planet?" The alien on the screen just stared blankly. "The fireworks, I'm guessing? You think they're war signals? They're not, I can assure you that. Most of the people on this planet don't even believe you exist. Very closed minded they are . . ."

"War?!" The alien shouted, making the Doctor and Rose jump. "We have not come for war. We have come to admire the magical lights."

"The what now? Ooh." The Doctor smiled, well in that case, stay as long as you like, they usually go all night." He put an arm around Rose.

"So you just came for the, the magical lights?" Rose questioned. The alien nodded.

"Farewell then!" The Doctor said cheerily. "If you'll excuse me, I've got some magic lights to watch." He pressed a button and swung open the doors to the TARDIS, motioning for Rose to come sit with him again. "Well isn't this nice," he said, "for once they're here for peace." Rose smiled and hugged the skinny Doctor.

"Look at that," she said pointing, "it's midnight." She kissed the Doctor before he had time to react. He pulled back and smiled.

"What'dya say, Rose." He said, stroking her cheek. "Should we go to New New York ten minutes ago?"

"Why not?" She said, giggling. The perfect end to a perfect year, although it didn't seem like it mattered since they were in a different year every other day. But it felt like it mattered, that moment. It really felt like it mattered.
