Y/n L/n stared at their reflection with a small frown, lifting their shirt and pinching the rolls on their side. They hadn't seen a scale since arriving at the school turned prison. "This is bad..." they mumbled, looking again into their mirror. Y/n had kept meticulous track of their weight for several months up until attending Hope's Peak, and not being able to control it anymore was driving them mad. "Did I put on weight...? I can't tell.. damnit..." As they were thinking out loud, a sharp knock came at the door. A small chill ran through Y/n's spine as they placed a hand on the doorknob. They took a shaky breath before cracking the door open. "Hello..?"
"Y/n, thank goodness!" Aoi sighed. "It's breakfast time! Did you forget?" She asked, tilting her head.
"Oh no- I must have. I'm so sorry." Y/n apologized. "Just give me one moment and I'll join everyone in the cafeteria."
Aoi nodded with a smile and left to join the others. As soon as the door closed, Y/n slid down and sat against it. "I'll count to five... and I can do it.." they whispered, looking up at the ceiling.
"One." They got to their feet.
"Two." Y/n went back into their bathroom, fixing their bedhead.
"Three." They splashed water into their face.
"Four." They pulled on their big baggy jacket, feeling more at ease.
"Five." Y/n opened the door, stepping out into the hallway. "Okay." They made their way through the halls to the cafeteria, pausing to take another deep breath before walking into the room. A wave of relief washed over Y/n as no one seemed to pay much attention to them, instead engaged in their own conversations. One pair of eyes did not escape Y/n's notice though. Byakuya Togami watched them, making Y/n shift uneasily in their place.
"Can I help you, Togami?" Y/n mumbled. "You're staring."
"You were late." Byakuya stated bluntly, sounding irritated.
"Excuse me?" Y/n took on their own irritated tone. "You're hardly one to talk- you're late every single day!"
"D-Don't you dare talk to M-Master Byakuya like that y-y-you piece of crap!" Fukawa squawked, pointing at Y/n angrily.
"Stay out of this." Both you and Byakuya snapped at her in sync. Upon the intervention from her "master", Toko stopped talking and looked at the table quietly. An awkward silence swept across the room. Y/n could feel everyone watching now, a general sense of unease followed any argument.
"I was simply concerned, as it was out of character for you." Byakuya spoke, his tone still cold- but softer than it had been. "A murder out of nowhere would be inconvenient for all of us." For a moment, Y/n was surprised, allowing themselves to think that Togami might have cared for someone other than himself- not just someone, but them. But then, that moment ended.
"Gee, I'm flattered." Y/n replied in a dry, sarcastic tone. "Don't worry I'll do my best not to create any inconveniences." they huffed, taking their usual seat amongst the group. They put their head down on the table, and slowly, all the voices in the room melded together as everyone reported on their "findings". Y/n tuned them out. They could feel their stomach begin to eat at itself, and their hands clenched into fists. They ignored the pain. I don't know for sure, but... I think I had too many calories last night.. Y/n thought. So I'll have to skip a couple meals today...
These thoughts drowned out all else, and soon Y/n had fallen half-asleep at the table.
"Y/n." A harsh voice called, jolting them awake. Someone's hand was on their shoulder. Y/n turned around, looking up at Byakuya. "Everyone left." Y/n looked around, and sure enough, the two of them were the only ones left in the room."Even Fukawa..?" Y/n questioned. "That's-"
"I asked her to leave." Byakuya interrupted, sitting beside Y/n. They were caught off guard once again.
"Why..?" Y/n asked, suspicion creeping into their voice.
"Relax. I wanted to have a conversation." Byakuya sighed. "I noticed that you haven't eaten. What do you want? I'll grab it for you." He offered. Y/n shook their head."No thank you, I can't." They spoke. Byakuya raised a brow at their phrasing.
"You can't?" he asked. Y/n avoided looking him in the eye, stumbling for an answer.
"No- I mean I can, but- I'm not.. feeling well..?" They fumbled with the bottom of their jacket in their hands.
"You're lying." Byakuya huffed, crossing his arms. "Tell me the truth."
"I really don't want to-" Y/n mumbled, tears stinging the corners of their eyes. "I just don't have the numbers-" Byakuya listened to them for a moment, then gently placed a hand on their shoulder. The contact surprised Y/n, and they looked to him once again. Taking in the sight of them crying bothered him more than he'd ever admit.
"You-" He started, but couldn't find the words. After a moment, he tried again. "You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. But, you don't eat very much, and it will effect your health. If you can look me in the eyes and tell me honestly that you aren't in pain, I won't insist on you eating something." His voice seemed warm, and genuinely worried. The concern almost made Y/n cry more.
"I can't do that." Y/n admitted, looking back down at their lap. "I just- I was trying to lose weight, so-""Why?" Byakuya asked, sounding genuinely confused. "You're attractive as you are." He stated it plainly, as if it were an indisputable fact. Y/n couldn't help but laugh.
"See, I don't think that way." Y/n answered. "I used to- but being accepted to Hope's Peak... the Ultimates are put under a microscope. There are a lot of forums online dedicated to talking about us, and.." They trailed off.
"So some people online made you feel this way." He concluded. Y/n nodded. "Well, I know I can't make your thoughts just magically go away." He sighed. "But, I can't allow you to do this to yourself." He was firm in his stance.
"But-" Y/n started, but the were cut off again.
"I meant what I said Y/n. You are attractive- at any weight, and more importantly than that, this behavior puts your health at risk. I won't force you to have a large meal, but I am going to insist that you at least have something." Byakuya spoke. Y/n nodded, wiping away tears.
"Alright." They accepted. Byakuya nodded and stood, heading to the kitchen. "Byakuya-" Y/n called, reaching out and grabbing his wrist. He turned to face them."What-" this time Byakuya was cut off by Y/n hugging him. He tensed up, before slowly relaxing and hugging them back.
"Thank you." Y/n mumbled, letting go.
"Of course, Y/n." Byakuya answered, clearing his throat after. "And don't worry- this all will stay between us." Y/n laughed a little at his slight embarrassment.
"Alright."
