Sugi raised his head to gaze at the scene unfolding before him. Wave after wave of enemy soldiers seemed to manifest as if by magic. It seemed to him that his time on earth was soon to end. His father continued to fight as if finding an unending pool of energy. Sugi wondered if his mother knew of the horrors that had befallen them. If she could sense the perishing of their kingdom. He needed her right now. Only her words of wisdom could possibly get him through this perilous night.
Sugi instinctively dodged a sword that just missed his neck by an inch as arrows flew over his head letting him survive for a few more moments. Suddenly, the sky grew dark and the air grew colder. A menacing stomp from the dark army drew them to a stop. They no longer marched towards them and the sea of armor parted as a creature with piercing yellow eyes approached flanked by two grotesque guards. They came closer to the king that sat tall on his white horse. The demon beheld a proud king fearless and strong at the head of his army, willing to give it all for his kingdom.
Sugi came closer to his father in a show of support. The fierce creature smirked finding their love amusing. If he was ever a man, there was no sign of it in his animalistic eyes. More likely he was possessed by the darkness itself. His eyes traveled from Sugi to his father along with Jimon and Vante that had not left his side.
"Have you had enough?" The hooded creature asked. The question was meant to intimidate.
"I am willing to concede defeat if you let everyone here continue to live," the king replied.
"You don't need to concede defeat!" He chuckled, "you are finished." He said drawing out every syllable. "I will take whatever I want and you... ," he gestured at the surviving men and elves, "...may leave."
"Thank you for allowing us to leave with our lives," the king said graciously. He knew the most important thing in a kingdom was its people. The rest can be rebuilt. He lifted his hand and gave the order to retreat.
"One moment," the dark lord said, "there is one more thing that I require." The king stared at his steely eyes knowing this could not be good. "You must make the ultimate sacrifice so your lineage will not continue. I must witness you kill your son."
"No!" Jimon wailed in horror as the king slowly turned to his son. The king's gaze showed the terror in his eyes.
Sugi's heart lurched with fear as he looked up at the fierce eyes of the creature that had commanded his death. As if that wasn't enough, the dark lord smiled showing his fanged teeth, and lifted his sword to attack Jimon knowing this would hurt Sugi the most.
An unseen force pushed Jimon down to the ground away from the blade.
Suddenly the sky cleared revealing the light of the full moon. Maeve ran out of the palace and into the garden. She moved quickly up the stone steps to the highest point she could reach. She looked up at the moon and continued to chant her spell calling Selene, the goddess of the moon, to Sugi. She instinctively knew the goddess would help him. As she chanted her spell, she lifted her hands towards the sky. To her delight, a great ball of light manifested in her hand.
Sugi looked at Jimon only scared for his lover's life. He moved to pull him to safety as Jimon wrapped his arms around him. The ground shook, the air grew very cold and the moon seemed to get larger.
"You fool, you can't protect him. He is about to die by his father's hand."
Sugi's father screamed a warning as his arms moved of their own volition. He raised the sword aiming at his son's heart. With gritted teeth, he fought back the urge to slay his own son.
"Do it! Or I will destroy you all!" The demon said.
Vante ran towards the king and with all his strength tried to stay his hand, but it was no use. The power urging him overpowered them both.
Just as the sword was about to pierce his heart, a great ball of light appeared as a shield between them. The light increased as Sugi's strength grew. Unable to pierce his heart the blade moved closer to Jimon. The creature laughed as Sugi screamed an agonizing wail of despair.
"Noooo!"
The ground shook as if struck by God's merciful hand and the entire dark army was lifted and hurled hundreds of feet plummeting over the mountain into the abyss. The shrill cries of their enemies could still be heard as they met their end embraced by the darkness of the pit, a fitting end to their dark souls.
The king ran to the edge of the cliff astounded at the outcome. It was not what they were expecting. The king looked over at his son's unbelieving face, Sugi had finally come into his power. A power that his mother had hinted at many times. The Sugilite prince's eyes glowed violet astounded at what he was able to achieve because of love. In the end, he had managed to save the kingdom and his lover.
Jimon rushed to his arms letting out a great sob. He knew that nothing could ever come between them for their union was blessed by the goddess of the moon.
