"Hi, welcome Dairy Queen. How can I help you today?" the girl at the cash register asked. Po felt all nervy. Every other time he got a job, it would be fine for a few weeks and then he'd go through a depressive episode. He couldn't help it. He took his medication, but it made him feel empty. "Sir?" the girl asked again.
"Oh, uh, I'm so sorry. Do you have any open jobs? I was hoping for an application," Po stuttered. He felt his face burning with embarrassment. He really studied the girl for the first time. She looked about seventeen or eighteen. She was very thin like the taxi driver had been. Her eyes were beautiful.
"It's no problem, sir. We do have another cashier spot open at the moment. I'll run to the back and get you an application." Po was absolutely fascinated by her. She was so graceful when she walked. She was back quickly.
"Thank you so much!" Po said gratefully. "So, um, sorry if this is kind of strange," he started before laughing nervously, "you seem really cool, and I was wondering if you might want to be friends... Do you think I could have your instagram?" He felt like he was sweating absolute bullets. She giggled a little before responding.
"For sure!" She pulled a napkin from the holder beside her and a pen from her apron. She scribbled on the napkin and slid it Po's way. "I'm always looking for new friends!" she cheered. She had such a way about her. She seemed so... happy. Po folded the napkin and the application and slipped them in his jacket pocket.
"Thank you so much. Have a nice day!" Po said with a smile before turning.
"You too!" She waved as he walked away, and he gave a little wave back. He couldn't help but smile as he walked down the sidewalk. Her joy was absolutely infectious. His mind created scenerious of them working together, going for coffee, taking late night drives, partying. He couldn't help but latch to her. He knew he couldn't come off this strong when he messaged her, but he enjoyed thinking about it nonetheless.
When Po got home, Lala was there. "You look happy," he said surprised. Po smiled.
"I met a new friend, and I may have a new job!" Po grinned as he spoke. Lala smiled.
"That's lovely, Po! I'm so happy for you!"
