July was getting hotter and hotter as the month continued. It was getting to a point where the coffee shop Max worked at was having to shut early so the staff could get home before the sunset, which was a dangerous time to be out because of the sun's strong rays, and because of the recycled air that was suffocating in the cafe.

So one day, when Max was at his apartment, he started calling Alex. Despite living next door, the both of them were too lazy and hot to get up.

Alex worked as a tutor for kids in school, and sometimes in college, so she only worked at certain times, which was mostly up to the students and not her. Luckily, she wasn't teaching at this point, so she quickly picked up her phone.

"Yo what's up?" she asked.

"I'm bored so I called you," Max responded.

"Wow it's great to know you only call me cause you're bored," Alex said, a cheeky smile on her face.

"Alex! You know that's not true!" Max pouted before continuing."have you ever used morse code?"

"Of course i have! I would use it to talk to my friends when we were in a test,"

Max rolled his eyes, not surprised by his friend's words. "Then we should use it!"

"Now?" Alex thought for a second. "Yeah sure. Why not?"

And so began the adventure of contacting your friend by simply knocking on a wall.

The walls in this building were quite thin, which was great for contacting your friend through the wall via morse code, but terrible if you lived next to someone loud.

Ale and Max aren't always that creative, despite both of them having the minds of 12 year olds. Their conversation, however, was quite interesting.

Max: -.-- --- / .. / .... .- ...- . / .- / --.- ..- . ... - .. --- -. (yo i have a question)

Alex: -.-. --- -. - .. -. ..- . (continue)

Max: .-- .... . -. / .- .-. . / -.-- --- ..- / .- -. -.. / -.-. .... .- .-. .-.. .. . / --. . - - .. -. --. / -- .- .-. .-. .. . -.. (when are you and Charlie getting married?)

Alex: - .... . / ... .- -- . / -.-- . .- .-. / -.-- --- ..- / .- -. -.. / .--- .- -.-- / ... - .- .-. - / -.. .- - .. -. --. (the same year you and Jay start dating)

Max: -... . - - . .-. / --. --- / - . .-.. .-.. / -.-. .... .- .-. .-.. .. . / -.-- --- ..- / --. ..- -.-- ... / .- .-. . -. .----. - / --. . - - .. -. --. / -- .- .-. .-. .. . -.. / - .... . -. .-.-.- / ... .... . .----. ... / --. --- -. -. .- / -... . / .... . .- .-. - -... .-. --- -.- . -. -.-.-- (better go tell Charlie you guys aren't getting married then. She's gonna be heartbroken!) A light giggle came from Max's room at this point.

Alex: .-- .... -.-- ..--.. / -.-- --- ..- / .- -. -.. / .--- .- -.-- / .- .-. . / --- -... ...- .. --- ..- ... .-.. -.-- / .. -. / .-.. --- ...- . / .-- .. - .... / . .- -.-. .... / --- - .... . .-. .-.-.- / -.. --- -. .----. - / - . .-.. .-.. / -- . / .. - .----. ... / --. --- -. -. .- / - .- -.- . / --- -. . / --- ..-. / -.-- --- ..- / -... . .. -. --. / -.. . .- -.. / ..-. --- .-. / - .... .. .-. - . . -. / -.-- . .- .-. ... / ..-. --- .-. / -.-- --- ..- / --. ..- -.-- ... / - --- / .-. . .- .-.. .. ... . / - .... .. ... --..-- / .-.. .. -.- . / .. -. / - .... . / -.. .-. .- -- .- / .. / .-- .- - -.-. .... . -.. / --- -. -.-. . .-.-.- (why? you and jay are obviously in love with each other. don't tell me it's gonna take one of you being dead for thirteen years for you guys to realise this, like in the drama I watched once) now a grunt of concentration came from Max's room, followed by a long sigh.

Max: -. --- - / . ...- . .-. -.-- - .... .. -. --. / .. -. / .-.. .. ..-. . / .. ... / - .... . / ... .- -- . / .- ... / .. -. / -.-. .... .. -. . ... . / -.. .-. .- -- .- ... --..-- / .- .-.. . -..- .-.-.- / .. .----. -- / --. --- .. -. --. / -. --- .-- / -... . ..-. --- .-. . / -.-- --- ..- / .- -. -. --- -.-- / -- . / . ...- . -. / -- --- .-. . (Not everything in life is the same as in Chinese dramas, Alex. I'm going now before you annoy me even more)

A shout of victory came from Alex's room as Max moved away from the wall and into his bedroom. He lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, one hand above his head, and one drooping off the bed. He thought about what Alex said and laughed to himself. His friends were so weird.
