"Guess who I saw!" exclaimed Max after he returned from the coffee shop where he works and dumping his bag on the sofa. "Charlie and Alex! They are back from their holiday then, i guess," he laughed, happy that his best friend and her partner were back in their apartment next door. Just as Jay was about to respond, a light knock came from the door, and Max seemed to fly to the door before swinging it open cheerfully to reveal two girls, one with long dark purple curly hair, and one with short deep red hair, and each holding a medium sized plastic bag. The one with purple hair gave Max a hug before walking into the apartment and greeting Jay, the other two following her. They walked into the sitting room, Max sitting on the floor with one of the girls, and the other two older people sitting on the sofa.
"How was your holiday Alex?" Max asked the purple haired girl.
"It was awesome!" she replied, her green eyes sparkling just like the shiny eyeshadow she boldly wore. "America is so much hotter than England! And Vegas was so much fun! I have never eaten so much food. And Charlie took me to this concert there and it was amazing!" Alex continued to talk expressively while the girl called Charlie just sat and watched the conversation from her place next to Jay on the sofa. She wasn't much of a talker."And you'll never believe what they had there! They have..." she paused excitedly before revealing clearly her favourite part of the trip. "Massive sweet shops!" she laughed and watched Max's reaction, which definitely wasn't one of disappointing. He stared at her with jealousy, his love for sugar strongly showing.
"Aw don't be sad Max. i got you a present!" she shoved the plastic bag she had been holding into his lap and watched in anticipation as he opened the bag and peered inside, only to let out a shout of excitement at the contents. He took out what was inside and showed it to Jay. it was a massive box of sugary snacks from the USA.
"See Jay! Alex would let me eat snacks," he said jokingly. Jay just shook his head and smiled lightly. Max opened the box immediately and took out a cookies and cream flavoured chocolate bar. He yelled his thanks happily before digging into the chocolate."You guys bicker like a married couple," said Charlie, speaking up for the first time since she arrived as she handed her bag to Jay.
"You guys always say that," Jay said and Max nodded, while still eating his chocolate bar. Jay began to open the bag and pulled out a hoodie, which could have been a gift for Jay or Max, as Max is always stealing his hoodies. He thanked both the girls before carefully securing it next to him, as he could already feel Max eyeing it closely.
"I bet you that by the time Max turns twenty seven you guys will have dated and gotten married," said Alex boldly from next to Max. "and before you say that it will never happen, just know that i said the exact same thing before dating Charlie." Max just sat pouting slightly on the floor, because Alex's teasing was a frequent occurrence in his life after being her friend after 14 years. They sat and talked for a while until it started to get dark, and then four friends walked towards the boys' balcony, through the sliding window-door, as they often watched the sunset over the London skyline together. As the sun set, the boys thanked the couple once again for their gifts, Max gave Alex a bone-crushing hug, and then the girls left, Alex linking her hand with Charlie's as she left the apartment, turned towards hers, unlocked her door and walked in, pulling Charlie along with her.
