totally restored

she'd expected something else
something entirely different
but this would have to make do
there was nowhere else to go
no way back
only forward

up or down
good or bad
light or dark

she wanted to
desperately
but she was stuck
in between
like an outsider
not allowed into either
not welcome at all

nobody heard her pleas for help
or if they did
they simply ignored her

she called for the angels
tried summoning them for days
as the world went on beneath her feet
a blur of colour
blues greens browns and greys

no response

new approach
she would try it
it wasn't ideal
but anything was better than this
this in-between business
one foot in
one foot out
inside both but inside none

she yelled and shouted
no echo
no demons came
to snatch her up
and drag her down to hell

she was alone
utterly and truly alone
not a soul in sight

then she raised her head
lifted her eyes to her old friends
the stars
wizened by time
the constellations
christened by many yet understood by few
what would it take
for her to join their ranks
cold and indifferent
in the velvet sky of night

she hadn't seen them in years
yet she tore her gaze away
for they reminded her of him
the one whom she despised
the one whom she loved
the one whom should've died
the one whom she would die for

and had died for

his name rang in her mind
his blond hair
his blue eyes
his scruffy beard
his strong shoulders
everything

she tried to reach back down
apologise for all that she had done
and left undone

but she had had her chance
and she had turned her back on it

this was why she was stuck
in between worlds
the realms of heaven and hell
a middle ground
that would drain her
consume her
and hopefully
she wished
end her
